A recent trip to Bandon, Oregon reminded me of the amazing labyrinths created periodically throughout the year by artist Denny Dyke. This was captured under full moon light, light painted by walking the path with a flashlight pointed at the ground. It took 8 minutes to walk the entire path. I got off course the first several attempts but finally succeeded after an hour just before the tide came in and erased it. #bandon #bandonbeach #labyrinth #oregoncoast #oregon #landscapephotography #lightpainting

Now Comes Spring (swipe for no IG crop) Not RIGHT now though. Autumn and winter first. I just love back lit flowers. They glow as if they are illuminated from within.

Storybook Land As I prepare for an upcoming photo trip in Europe, this image comes to mind. I captured it on Lake Bled, Slovenia a few years ago. In my childhood, this is quintessentially what Europe looked like to me. Thankfully I've seen a bit more of the real thing since then. I'm headed a little further north and west this time. Stay tuned.... #slovenia #lakebled #storybook #churchonalake

Fitz Roy Sunset and Moon(swipe for no crop) From a trip to Patagonia with @christian_heeb_photographer a few years ago. The sunset glow was beautiful but I also remember the wind being fierce that evening. I’m excited to be teaming up with Christian again in a couple weeks in the Alps of Switzerland where he is from. Canon5D4, 24-70mm lens @ 33mm, 30 seconds, f/18, ISO 100. Separate exposure for moon and clouds, 42mm, 2.5 seconds, f/13.

Sailor's Delight As the saying goes...red skies at night on the ocean often happen when a weather system is departing to the east and the skies to the west are clear, indicating high pressure and better weather to come. It holds true as long as weather systems are moving from west to east with the jet stream as they do on the Oregon coast. If you are in a place where wind patterns are blowing in weather systems from the east then it means just the opposite so be ready for the coming storm. Canon 5D4, 16-35mm lens at 16mm, @breakthrough.photography cpl, 0.8 seconds, f/18, ISO 100.

Summer Pastels Mountain lakes, granite peaks, alpine flowers, pastel sunset. From an off-trail backpacking trip with my son in the Russian Wilderness of Northern California this summer. Canon 5D4, 16-35mm at 16mm, 1.3 seconds, f/16, ISO 100.

On The Shoulder Of A Giant (swipe for no crop) This young tree is getting a leg up on its competition. Growing out of the top of the trunk of an old dead redwood allows it to reach valuable sunlight filtering through the canopy. It's lucky for now, but I think its days are limited. As it continues to grow and the trunk continues to decay it will eventually all come crashing down. Canon 5D Mark IV, 24-70mm f/2.8L II, Breakthrough Photography polarizer, 35 mm, 0.5 seconds, F/11, ISO 100.

Light in the Depths (swipe for no crop of course) Every time I explore the Redwoods, I appreciate how lucky I am to live nearby. Between the changing light and weather conditions, it's a photography wonderland.

Monte Cristallo (swipe for no crop) There are crosses all over the mountains in the Dolomites. They often mark summits or fortifications from WWI and WWII. This one must be 50 feet tall. If you look closely you can also see a suspension bridge spanning between two points on the right. This is part of the Ivano Dibona via ferrata route. From a workshop last winter with @erinbabnikphotography. Canon 5D Mark IV, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II, Breakthrough Photography polarizer, 360mm, 1/60 second, F/14, ISO 100, mirror lockup, 2 second timer shutter release

Cascade In The Cascade Range (swipe for no crop) If the Cascade Range that runs from northern California through Oregon, Washington and up into Canada wasn’t named for its countless waterfalls, it should have been. This fine cascade is one of many in the North Umpqua watershed. Canon 5D Mark IV, 24-70mm f/2.8L II, Breakthrough Photography polarizer, 24mm, 0.8 seconds, F/18, ISO 100.
