High Desert Balsamroot⠀
For a few brief weeks of spring the Oregon High Desert comes alive with color. The hills are green and wildflowers can be plentiful. @zackschnepf and I found quite a bit of balsamroot while adventuring some of the backroads in April. I think we found more flowers than ticks this time, which I'm considering a win.⠀

This big old guy looked like he was holding court in a fern covered clearing in the Prairie Creek section of Redwoods National Park.⠀ My wife, @jbkickinthepants thinks I should tag this with #smashthepatriarchy and #mansplain but I think I'll politely decline her request.
Canyon Of Ferns⠀
A magical and seemingly prehistoric canyon in Redwoods National Park. OK, I know it IS prehistoric...but I mean going in there feels like going back to the Jurassic Period. ⠀

The Dolomites rise so high and abruptly that they catch twilight long after sunset after the lower hills and valleys are in darkness. ⠀

I had a wonderful four days tromping around with friends from Down Under, @faranak_sy @ralph_hilmer And @glen_parker_photography.
Glen took the fast way down into this canyon (he claims it was a 1000 foot slide but in reality take a couple zeros off)...so Glen Falls it is. swipe over to see it without the IG crop.
Kiss Of Light⠀
Sunrise light breaks through the remnants of the previous day’s snow storm and brushes the tips of the Pale di San Martino peaks and what I assume are either larch trees with some fall color hanging on...or maybe they are just dead trees. Whatever the case, they were pretty in that light. ⠀

One of my favorite sandstone features in the southwest. Tony Kuyper showed it to me years ago. It isn’t large, but the variation of the shapes and patterns present many different abstract compositions. The colors look very different in daylight, but in deep twilight the blues and purples come through.
Path in the Redwoods
I love this footpath winding through the redwood trees, sword ferns and oxalis or redwood sorrel in Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park. I’m fortunate to live just a couple hours from here and try to visit each year in different seasons. I'll bet it was amazing before we cut most of them down to build decks and such stuff.
