"You don't need to have big hairy feet to read The Hobbit, why should you be gay to read a gay book?" --Adriano Bulla, author of "The Road to London" It's LGBTQIA Pride Month! What are your favorite queer authors or books with queer characters? Share in the comments! Some of our favorites are "Lets Talk About Love" by NaNo Author Claire Kann, "Black Wings Beating" by C. Alexander London, a YWP Pep Talk contributor, "The Summer of Jordi Perez" by Amy Spalding and "Black Leopard, Red Wolf" by Marlon James. @kannclaire @alexander_london @thatames @marlonjameswriter #nanowrimo #pride #lgbtqiawriters #writersofig #amwriting *An earlier version of this post incorrectly categorized Amy Spalding's novel, "Ink is Thicker than Water" as having queer characters. We apologize for any confusion this caused.

NaNoWriMo Presents NaNoLitMo! This is an exciting literary reading series for Wrimos and the wide world of local writers who dare to write greatly (or you know, who dare to write anything at all, which counts). Join us at Octopus Literary Salon in Oakland as we showcase local authors of all genres in our bimonthly series. Each event will have a reading, a writing-related activity, and a Q&A session with the author. This month's featured author will be Claire Kann! Claire is the author of Let's Talk About Love and an award-winning online storyteller. In her other life, she works for a nonprofit that you may have heard of where she daydreams like she's paid to do it. Find out more by visiting her website: (and while you're there, tell her about your cats. She loves cats. A lot.) Her next YA novel, If It Makes You Happy, releases June 4th, 2019. #nanoauthor #nanowrimo #nanolitmo #nationalnovelwritingmonth #octopusliterarysalon #clairekann #ifitmakesyouhappy #letstalkaboutlove

"There is an ache on my chest today, sweet, searching, and painful, like a tongue that is cut and tingles with sweetness and pain after eating a strong pineapple." --Binyavanga Wainaina, "One Day I Will Write About this Place: A Memoir" This is such a beautiful line.
