How deep can you go in your eagle? Last time I posted an #eaglepose was over 2 yrs ago but it’s actually my favorite one-legged standing pose. When you’re in a class the idea of deepening this pose is to try to be the shortest person in the room with the longest spine although it’s tough to do that when you enter this from #chairpose Try to keep that in mind though whether or not your arms and legs are in double wraps and while holding your balance with your #drishti in this. But today I practiced #ashtanga yoga with a friend, spent some time playing at the park and took my kids to get milkshakes after camp. - - I’m not saying the house, laundry and bills aren’t important, but life is a balance and if we forget those things that help us connect to ourselves and others we aren’t taking care of an important piece. Doing, checking off lists, being successful, those are admirable and they should be recognized, but so should keeping yourself healthy physically and mentally, connecting with friends and making memories with your kids. As we explore our practice deeper postures often take on new meaning. - - After practicing #dropbacks along with #ekapadaurdhvadhanurasana and a #kickover for #wewheelonwednesdays #onwednesdayswedropback and #onwednesdayswekickover I started thinking about what #corepose I was going to work for #SummerYogisLove and then realized I just had done one of my favorite - #wheelpose - - Stay with me for a minute. I know that #backbends are not traditionally thought of as #corework - they are made to open the front of your body and not engage it. But when we think of leg strength we include quads and hamstrings, when we think of arm strength we include biceps and triceps. When we think of #corestrength we should include abdominals and back muscles. They absolutely work together and I’ve learned more about my abdominals since I started a #dailybackbendpractice than I ever could have imagined. Last 10 days in Karlskrona teaching in the amazing @hotyogakarlskrona. In these 2 months @linaspirulina77 took so much care of my practice and my teaching! I finally got back to end my classes right on time - most of the times 😅 - thanks to the detailed feedbacks she gave me. I was motivated to join the challenge of 30 hot classes in 30 days and started to work on new poses every day. I can't even list the number of things I learnt in these months! Let's enjoy this great daily dose of yoga inspiration from @talonyoga : ⠀ ...⠀ "Daily YOGA inspiration 🙏 @talonyoga ⠀ .⠀ 🍩🎡🚴‍♀️ Day 1️⃣ of #LetTheWheelsTurn with @cyogalab 🔄 #Wheel or #UrdhvaDhanurasana 🚴‍♀️🎡🍩 Ok, day 1, here we go! Remember to warm up thoroughly before attempting this pose, especially if your back/shoulders/thighs feel ‘stiff’. Very often, that tightness fades, or tones done dramatically, after 30-40 min of standing poses, lunges, shoulder openers, milder backbends etc so, roll out that mat, practice and, once you feel ready, lie on your back, walk the feet in, heels very close to the butt, place the palms down, next to the ears, fingers pointing to the shoulders, lift the hips and, on exhale, press up either on the crown of the head or all the way into Wheel. If you find trouble going up, know that for everyone, those first few inches, are also the hardest, only most people can ‘keep going’ and, once they pass a certain height, it’s (relatively) comfortable to hold and stay in this #backbend so, if that first lift is the issue: go next to a wall, place 2 blocks under the palms (easier if you rest them right at the edge, fingers pointing to the floor) and try once more. All the time, but specially when you’re arriving to the full pose, remember to lift the arch into the thoracic spine. Open the heart and front of the shoulders. If you feel discomfort in the low back, raise the heels, use the toes to press down and open the shoulders more. Eventually you want to lower them, feet as parallel to each other as possible, but stay up if the pain is still there. Let the head hang or look down to the floor (but don’t over yank it!). There’s a million more things to say about this fascinating asana and we’ll uncover some of its intricacies post after post, one day at a time… Stay tuned for more insights in tomorrow’s modification!
