These are the “leftovers” after we sift the worm castings. Mostly woodchips, undigested leaves and some larger pits like avocados.
WHAT WILL YOU FIND IN YOUR BUCKET OF WORMIES VERMICOMPOST? 🌟The vast majority of it is worm castings, alongside some particles of humus (organic matter) from decomposed material. 🌟You will also find an entire community of soil organisms. Many of them specific to West Michigan. 🌟There might also be a few baby worms and eggs. Nothing to be afraid of. They will either thrive and help your garden or die if your soil is too sterile. 🌟There are also the invisible guys, not noticeable without a microscope. Aproximately 1 BILLION bacteria per each gram, yards of fungal filament and thousands of protozoa and nematodes. 🌟Arthropods are the most noticeable and what customers ask us about the most! Those include: sow bugs, springtails, spiders, centipedes, ants. These are important recyclers transforming the organic matter and minerals into a more readily available form (more poop!) for the invisible guys (above). 🌟Having all of these organisms present in your soil will help keep their balance and prevent an overpopulation of one of them.
