Clive gave us a ring early the next morning, as a heads up, that I might be let go. I assured him I was in the same ballpark. mentally, I fired Garrick the evening before. And I was not going anywhere without the money. My back was against the wall & he exploited my sincerity & honesty. The love & respect I had for him was now split in half. I would have gone to lengths to get paid my deserving wage. True to his true nature, he called on clive to mediate in case things got ugly. I was also cautious enough myself, to record our minutes.
As they pulled up on the property, I readied for the "dogfight", as Garrick would call it. My heart throbbed a powerful thump, conceiving my perfect natural posture. With clive around, his Mr. Hyde reverted back to a generous, righteous Dr. Jekyll again, & I was completely taken aback. He openly offered to pay me at my normal rate(which I did not require), & as a dying effort, asked to be paid rent for the room. I was quick to dismiss it as the tarago was still not available to me, & I had my full circumstance made known, prior to his generous offer. I saw the pain in his eyes, as he whipped out the stack from his wallet, with poorly written numbers on a used mail letter. He begrudgingly handed it over. The transaction was complete & I was not destined to work under his mentorship, nor was I anymore interested. I already packed up, & was in the works of an alternative plan.
The kicker. He sends me a threatening text 6 hours later, about how I made disgusting comments about him & how things would have gone differently had he known my impression of him. A few more phone calls led me to realize why & how he had known. He became an animal, cursing clive on how he had "lost money", & getting a "bad deal" with me because of Clive. And it was all his fault. How he'd find me on the road & tear me a new one. None of this happened, but I understood why Clive dropped the ball. This nut case of a child had no idea the seismic impact I was about to devastate his life with, over a few hundred dollars. Particularly, owed to me. He had single cars worth more than everything I own. I could not resist a rebuttal to his texts.
