The Congo Rainforest is known for its high levels of biodiversity, including more than 600 tree species and 10,000 animal species. Some of its most famous residents include forest elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees, okapi, leopards, hippos, and lions. Some of these species have a significant role in shaping the character of their forest home. For example, researchers have found that Central African forests generally have taller trees but lower density of small trees than forests in the Amazon or Borneo. The reason? Elephants, gorillas, and large herbivores keep the density of small trees very low through predation, reducing competition for large trees. But in areas where these animals have been depleted by hunting, forests tend to be shorter and denser with small trees. Therefore it shouldn't be surprising that old-growth forests in Central Africa store huge volumes of carbon in their vegetation and tree trunks (39 billion tons, according to a 2012 study), serving as an important buffer against climate change. While nine countries (Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia) have part of their territory in the Congo Basin, conventionally six countries with extensive forest cover in the region are generally associated with the Congo rainforest: Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. (Technically most of Gabon and parts of the Republic of Congo are in the Ogooue River Basin, while a large chunk of Cameroon is in the Sanaga River Basin). Of these six countries, DRC contains the largest area of rainforest, with 107 million hectares, amounting to 60 percent of Central Africa's lowland forest cover. https://rainforests.mongabay.com/congo/ #nature #naturephotography #naturelovers #savetheearth #savetheplanet #wildlife #wildlifephotography #earth #greenhouse #earthday #environment #travel #travelblogger #travelphotography

ver•sa•tile | /ˈvərsədl/ | (adj.) | able to adapt or be adapted to many different functions or activities — Yes, it’s the perfect word to describe V-lux Typ. 114 of @leica_camera. As you can see from the posted photos, thanks to Leica DC Vario Elmarit 25-400mm lens that allows you to take a wide-angle photo or telephoto (photo no. 1 - 5 were taken at 400mm), which this was the main reason why I decided to purchase this camera. However, V-lux 114 is a bridge camera; wait, what is that? In essence, a bridge camera is the combination of point-and-shoot camera and DSLR. So, if in a point-and-shoot camera you can only take photo without any option for setting up the shutter speed, aperture, ISO, etc, well you can do those stuffs in a brigde camera. Regardless, its status a bridge camera but, well you know how Leica’s picture quality, the photos are brilliant. They barely need extra touch(es) in photo editing apps, although I usually process it with Lightroom mobile (I never use PC photo editing apps) for minor editing (lightning, clarity and contrast). So, if you don’t want to waste time in changing lens (especially those who like to take landscape and wildlife photos), expect good quality of picture and well, you are fan of the Red Dot, V-lux 114 is a great choice (unless you can afford the SL Type and its lenses :D).

Totally fascinating or scary as hell 🐍?! When it comes to snakes, there seem to be only two camps. . As they’re quite difficult to spot – especially during dry season – we’re really excited every time we finally catch sight of one of these diverse and neat reptiles. This juvenile, yellow Eyelash Viper was curled up in a ball of just a few centimeters, while the Narrow-headed Vine Snake we found at night was about 2 meters long. Most formidable, the Jumping Pit Viper, that could strike so energetically that it lifts itself off the ground. . But as long as we keep our distance, snakes are more than happy to avoid any interaction with humans anyway. . How do you feel about snakes 🙃? . 📍Costa Rica . . . . #snakes #snake #viper #snakesofinstagram #reptilelover #wildlifephotographer #schlange #wildlifephotography #wildlifeconservation #reptilelove #wildlifeplanet #respectwildlife #rainforest #visitcostarica #travelwithus #creatingmemories #sonya7riii

Lilac and spur syrup on the making 🌸🍀 Spruce buds are rich in minerals such as potassium and magnesium. Spruce needles and its syrup have long been used by indigenous tribes for relieving coughs and sore throats. They also contain plenty of chlorophyll, which helps growing and healing tissues, controlling cravings, as well as transporting oxygen to cells. The lilac is added for its delicious sweet taste. #lilac #spruce #firtip #syrup #spring #flowers #nature #lover #sweet #photographer #spiritual #inspirational #wildfood #wildlifephotography
