I don’t usually talk on things like this in my poetry... but as it came naturally. This is my view on #jussiesmollett
I hope he’s not lying. And I know it seems weird to have wanted the attack to be true... but it’s the lesser of two evils.
A lot of people around the world are attacked because of who they are. Fear is their reality. Some don’t find their voice until someone of status (Mr Empire) goes through a similar event and gets justice. It gives hope. Seeing the community blend and come together in his support gives hope that times and attitudes are changing. This remains staple regardless of if it was a lie or not.
However, If it was all a lie then it dilutes any current or future allegations made of the same nature. Ignorant people already want to think this way, if this is a lie, they now have a documented case to use as an example to back up their scrutiny and disbelief.
The same way people bash #blacklivesmatter
The same way people bash #metoo victims
Stop sourcing facts from Instagram pages from the jump. This is an example of giving something momentum before we get the full story. Either way though, it was nice to see support of a victim, gay, black it didn’t matter. But ask yourself, would you keep the same energy if he weren’t famous? 🤷🏾♂️ #spokenword #spokenwordpoetry #lgbt #instapoetry #empire #whyyoualwayslying
