↟ ᴀᴄᴄᴇᴘᴛᴀɴᴄᴇ, ᴛʜᴇɴ ᴍᴏᴠɪɴɢ ғᴏʀᴡᴀʀᴅ | While it would be great if she just randomly waltzed back to us...I don’t think that will happen. I’ve accepted Helmet will never return, I’ve accepted; though, try not to think about, why that is.
I feel very guilty. Despite knowing that this could happen and hearing stories, I never attempted to secure their pen from attacks from above. I kept putting off getting them a new pool because I couldn’t fit it in my car, so I just waited. They continued to play in the same pool, oblivious to the threat from the trees, but I wasn’t unaware, I just thought it was “fine.” I thought their location close to the trailer was protection enough. I thought the tree cover they had was protection enough. I thought I was doing enough.
I wasn’t, but I will now. Why I wait for horrible learning experiences like this..I’ll never understand, but I will keep Peep and Lucky Ducky safe. With a new pool, a net that goes over their entire area, and only free roaming when I’m home, I won’t let this happen again. I try to be responsible, but sometimes...you just overlook certain details. You think “Well it won’t happen to me.”
Helmet will live on in my many memories of her. She will live through photos, through video, and through the special moments we shared. Swipe to see a photo of baby Helmet. You can see where she got her name, despite losing that helmet when she became an adult.
