Desert sanctuary of artist, Noah Purifoy in Joshua Tree.
It was 103° the day I visited the @noahpurifoyfoundation It was just me and the caretaker, Pat. We walked the lunar landscape taking in these enormous and poweful sculptures. Surreal and post-apocalyptic. Pat offered insight to his pieces, telling me how Noah worked alone in his this harsh environment into his 80's and how he died in 2004 (at the age of 86) in a fire. She was not just the caretaker but also a friend of Noah's and you could feel how much she appreciated him and his work.
If you've not been, go. It's an art lesson that's deep, poetic and timely.
