The only way for our values to mean anything — the only way for our values to actually be our values — is if they are reflected in the choices we freely make. And every day, we have the opportunity to live our values through our food choices. If we value kindness over violence, if we value justice over oppression, if we value being compassionate over causing unnecessary harm and suffering— and if we have access to plant-based foods— then veganism is the only consistent expression of our values. “One day… humanity will be done altogether with feeding on animals, for reasons of ethics along with the health and ecological reasons that are also staring us in the face. When an industry inflicts boundless abuse on animals, weighing ever more on the conscience of men and women everywhere, adversely affecting human health, and, moreover, when it’s a blight on the natural environment, it’s not implausible to imagine that industry’s eventual extinction. Unthinkable to most people today, obvious to most people tomorrow: We are all better off without the whole sorry business. And in the vocabulary of civilized people, who will miss the term ‘slaughterhouse’?” - Matthew Scully #vegan #vegansofig #meat #dairy #eggs #milk #cheese #beef #pork #pigs #bacon #milkhurts #baconandeggs #baconlover #burgers #regenerativefarming #veganicfarming #regenerativeagriculture #veganic #friendsnotfood #eatplants #sustainability #sustainablefood #animals #animallovers #cuteanimals #animalvideo #funnyanimals #stopbullying

⛩We still have work to do on it but we got the main bulk of our trellis project done this weekend (swipe left to see the structure). We started with branches from the property but when Kyle saw free bamboo on FB we decided to change tactics, pull up the old branches (make a teepee ⛺️out the those), and do the trellis structures entirely in bamboo! It reminds me of a Japanese garden structure. Brings back sweet memories for Kyle of living in Japan as a kid. ⛩ (Also...I'm a bit obsessed with the bamboo paper linings found in each cavity & Kyle made a small cup for our daughter, a shaker/rain maker and a vase out of the scraps). ⛩ ⛩ . . #buildingthings #bambooconstruction #diytrellis #learningnewthings #homestead #homesteadprojects #homesteadbloggers #farmstead #farming #gardening #veganfarm #veganhomesteaders #veganfarming #veganicfarming #farmingnorthcarolina #humanefarming #craft #selfsufficiency #beginningfarmers #frugalliving #simpleliving #kindness #plantbaseddiet #oldtimeskills #alwayslearning

It was a great sunny day for Earth Justice today in San Francisco! Over 30,000 in attendance. We also stopped at a farmers market on the way home. Kimmy and I walked 8 miles so far. We have 4 more to go. We marched under the banner of Veganic farming! #veganicgardening #veganicfarming #sanfrancisco #climatereality

I loved architecture since a child, but I never liked the idea of working for a firm and just finished with a #computeraideddesign #drafting certificate from my county. I did go to my local community college for some architecture classes after I ran into my high school architecture teacher and he said to sign up for them. I was perusing #art then, and he just got a kick out of that. That was my first major sidetrack. I later said fuck it all and took #Engineering , #RealEstate , and #Horticulture. Of course, I ended with nothing except sweet honey like insight. It all lead me to understanding #anarchy , so who knows if I would otherwise. I grew up in dairy farms and that drives my obession of a balanced #ecology. Why I am a #vegan. I reasearch this obession a lot. From #veganicfarming , #permaculture , #greenhouse , #conservationefforts , #alternativeenergy , #cleanwater , #waterretention , #greywater , #earthships , and a lot more #ecologicalarchitecture. Right now, I'm really loving #earthbermed #earthintegrated homes. I love the #southwesternarchitecture #adobehouse aesthetic as well as #cobbhomes , and the #prarieschoolarchitecture use of water aesthetics too. I grew up loving the clean lines of #midcenturymodern design since it was all around me in the classic #californiaranch architecture. Plus im hella into rock and that 50's & 60's cali surf rocker vibe is the shit. Most recently my love for curves has taken over, #Gaudi organic like lines are everthing. With these #blueprint sketches I sought to integrated all that. Scale is not correct, so it is more artistic than a proper draft. I call this home The Windmill Waterfalls. 1. Ground level. Features: contained japanese courtyard garden and japanese style hallways and rooms. Japanese, swedish/greek, and roman influenced baths. Spanish courtyards. Grotto. Beaches. Pools. Filter ponds. Vineyard. Orchards. 2&3. Second floor 4&5. Third Floor 6&7. Roof and highest elevation. Not drawn is the actual windmill, just its location on the green roof My use of waterfalls was beyond aesthetic but for #hydroelectric purposes. The basement level is not included but it includes a connected walipini and root celler only

🐄🐮 What would happen to all the animal farmers and slaughterhouse workers if animal agriculture ended? Animal agriculture will never simply come to a screeching halt overnight, leaving millions of workers jobless. A far more likely scenario is a decline based on a decrease in consumer demand over time. Many animal farmers who have a change of heart transition their farms to grow crops for human consumption, and slaughterhouse workers who “process” animals into food can also process plants into food. In fact, plant-based meat and dairy alternatives are one of the fastest growing sectors in the food industry. Consider also that modern animal farming methods have *drastically reduced* jobs in the farming sector. The intensive confinement, or factory farming, model that dominates Western, and, increasingly, global animal agriculture, is based on the use of feeding and housing technologies that produce the greatest amount of animals with the least amount of cost and human labor. This means that, to give just one example, a typical “broiler” chicken shed with as many as ten thousand birds crammed inside will commonly be overseen by a single worker. As people eat less meat, dairy and eggs, and more plant-based alternatives, new jobs and industries will be created. As demand for animal products decreases, we should also see an increase in programs designed to help animal farmers transition to plant-based farming. This is what our NewFarming.org campaign is all about: sharing the stories and courageous transitions of farmers who had a change of heart. - RP @free_from_harm #vegan #vegansofig #meat #dairy #eggs #milk #cheese #beef #pork #dairyfarming #dairyfarmer #milktruth #dairytruth #milkhurts #milklife #dairygood #undeniablydairy #regenerativefarming is #veganicfarming #regenerativeagriculture #veganic #friendsnotfood #eatplants #sustainability #sustainablefood #sanctuary #farmsanctuary #farmsanctuarylife

And in the vocabulary of civilized people, who will miss the term ‘slaughterhouse’?” - Matthew Scully #vegan #vegansofig #meat #dairy #eggs #milk #cheese #beef #pork #pigs #bacon #milkhurts #baconandeggs #baconlover #burgers #regenerativefarming is #veganicfarming #regenerativeagriculture #veganic #friendsnotfood #eatplants #sustainability #sustainablefood #animals #animallovers #cuteanimals #animalvideo #funnyanimals #stopbullying

We know of the history of land based oppression, forced migration of black, indeginoius, latinx, & Asian, folks. Resulting in a concentration of people of color in urban environments often times leaving us void of a much needed spiritual- mental connection to the 🌏, resulting in lower achievement, unhealthy eating habits leading to heart disease, cancer,& much more. Less than 2% of the 600,000 farms in the US are black owned . Part of my journey is to change that narrative. We are the earth, the earth is us. ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏿✊🏼 (Yea, I know my knees are ashy AF🤣😑) #blackfarmersmatter #stonergirlfarmsanctuary #eatforpeace

Since moving 🚗 here to North Carolina in January Kyle and I (Athena) have been blown away by the literal abundance there is out here in terms of plants. Having grown up in Arizona and Southern California I have a LOT to learn. So many of these plants (& some bugs🐜) are totally new to both of us. We can see why local foodies and growers feel so rich in life and such a draw to do what they do here. We are also continually in wonder at the beauty we see every day--especially on our hikes! #ironweed #anewworld #growers #hikers #naturelovers #alwayslearning . . . . . "Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. Rp @free_from_harm RepostBy @free_from_harm : "This Labor Day, we contemplate the common question, What would happen to all the animal farmers and slaughterhouse workers if animal agriculture ended? #vegan #vegansofig #meat #dairy #eggs #milk #cheese #beef #pork #dairyfarming #dairyfarmer #milktruth #dairytruth #milkhurts #milklife #dairygood #undeniablydairy #regenerativefarming is #veganicfarming #regenerativeagriculture #veganic #friendsnotfood #eatplants #sustainability #sustainablefood #sanctuary #farmsanctuary #farmsanctuarylife " (via #InstaRepost @AppsKottage )

"Why do farmers farm, given their economic adversities on top of the many frustrations and difficulties normal to farming? And always the answer is: "Love. They must do it for love." Farmers farm for the love of farming. They love to watch and nurture the growth of plants. They love to live in the presence of animals. They love to work outdoors. They love the weather, maybe even when it is making them miserable. They love to live where they work and to work where they live. If the scale of their farming is small enough, they like to work in the company of their children and with the help of their children. They love the measure of independence that farm life can still provide. I have an idea that a lot of farmers have gone to a lot of trouble merely to be self-employed to live at least a part of their lives without a boss." —Wendell Berry, Bringing it to the Table: On Farming and Food . . . We got our simple garden fencing up 🤺 this weekend (swipe left to see) & some of the slope side beds framed with pallet wood for support. Ran out of pallets so Kyle'll bring more home tomorrow. Our beautiful Indigo Rose tomatoes have a lot of green fruits that will probably all blush at once. I'm excited about our Stevia plant 🌱 and our Tulsi plant is producing in abundance! We have been storing tons of dried herbs and teas away for winter. 🌱 🍂 🌱 We will be purchasing a number of additional starts from @forvillagers to put in our fall garden. They said the starts should be in this week so stay tuned with them if you're looking for high quality local starts for your garden. • • HAPPY AUTUMN-IS-COMING SEASON! Fall is in the air already! 🍁 This evening we felt it so strongly. That crisp clean cool air and the subtle color changes all around. This will be our first Fall in our new state of North Carolina and somehow it feels so different from all other Autumns 🍂that have come before. Something soul-deep and spirit-rich and joyful is alive in the air. • • • Recently I (Athena) have been exploring warm drink recipes that include raw cacao or turmeric. Tonight I concocted a delicious blend of raw cacao, turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and a few other delicately autumn-esque spices, warmed and enjoyed with homemade oat milk on our front porch overlooking our joy-bringing fall garden plot. What are your favorite fall drinks and/or what are your favorites to plant your fall garden? • • • #gardening #homesteading #plantpoweredhomestead #plantbased #veganicgardening #veganicfarming #veganhomesteading #thebirdnbeastsfarmstead #veganfamilies #growingourownfood #eatlocal #growwhatyoulove #digdeeper #alwayslearning #veganfood #plantbaseddiet #homesteadbloger #homesteadingblog #veganblogger #wnc #permaculture #veganpermaculture #homegarden #kitchengarden #biodynamics #northcarolina #veganfarmer #vegangardener #simpleliving #foodforests

Meet Rancho AKA Stripes 🐓She’s best friends with Cucamonga. She’s one of the first family members to join the farm, we rescued her in February 2018 from a neighbor. We live in an area where animals are slaughtered for ‘farm fresh to table ingredients” all the time! It’s maddening, and just plain wrong! We strive to reduce the amount of beings used for slavery and barter, while improving the lives of as many animals as possible , stay tuned, we hope you’ll join us on this journey✨🍃! #actionforanimals #stonergirlfarmsanctuary
