The bees were much happier when I moved the second feeder away from their old entrance - now our new bees have two ways to get into their hive with their sisters. ❤️ we had cold rain for the past week and they have some pollen stored but I am worried that they have almost no honey or even nectar stores. Any ideas about how to help them get what they need to draw out new comb? #honeybees #abejas #miel #bees #naturelovers #insects #savethebees #motherearth #beekeepers #swarm #lovemothernature #beelovers #urbanbeekeeping #beehive #apicultura #apismellifera #beesofinstagram #hobbyfarm #urbanhomesteading #womenbeekeeping #insectphotography #honeycomb #womenbeekeepers #backyard #pollinators

Called for a swarm yesterday. Looks like the swarm was in one location on the ground where they started to spread wax then moved 6 feet away. The homeowner had already scheduled a pesticide company to come. The neighbor called me and it took minutes for the bees to walk in. • Listen to the amazed neighbor in the video!

What an April Sunday. Small snowflakes❄️come from the sky. Luckily, the snow doesn’t lie down, but it's still cold as hell. For the beekeeper who has the opportunity to go to Konstanz to the beekeeping days this would be a good option of the Sunday activity in this weather. Visit the @beevitalcom both! What about your weather 🌨⛈❄️☃️ . -and-werbung Via : @sk_beekeeping #beeswaxcandles #beekeepinglife #beehive #burtsbees #lovebees #beesting #savebees #honeybees #beestrong #backyardbeekeeping #pambeesly #saveourbees #beeswarm #urbanbeekeeping

Only 10 bottles left of our raw organic honey! Made by our bees and personally packaged, labeled, and signed by our littlest beekeeper. Or me, when his hand got tired. . Our Modern Hive honey is small batch, and ultra local, so it’s for pick up only in San Jose. Our first batch always goes to our teachers (HEROES! We 💗 our teachers), then our awesome neighbors, then our mailing list. To be notified of our next batch, go to modernhivedesign.com and scroll to the bottom to join our mailing list and be the first to know. . #urbanbeekeeping #beekeeping #beekeeper #honey #rawhoney #savethebees

💗 We’ve found honey from the hive is one of the best things to put on a bee sting. 🍯 ⠀ ⠀ You can read all about its incredible medicinal benefits including antioxidant, antimicrobial and soothing effects. Everyone goes for the honey when they have a sore throat. ⠀ ⠀ But honey also has antiseptic and antibacterial properties!! Modern medical science has managed to find uses for it in chronic wound management and combatting infection. 😱🤯🤭 ⠀ ⠀ I remember first reading about all of that and being mind blown by HOW good it is for us.⠀ ⠀ Find a local beekeeper by googling your nearest bee keeping club. Because consuming local raw honey is believed to help with seasonal allergies due to the repeated exposure to the pollen in the area. 🐝 🌸 🍃 Whereas pasteurized honey has been heated and processed to remove impurities. 🤭⠀ ⠀ So if you’re drizzling it on breakfast or adding it to your hot drinks you might as well be getting all the good benefits too. ⠀ ⠀ 📷 Created and don't get forget follow : 💓 @settlerhives 🌺Thank you very much ! 👍 💞💝💓 #biodynamicbeekeeping #texasbeekeeping #topbarbeekeeping #beekeepinguk #beekeepingsuit #beekeepingbosniaandherzegovina #coloradobeekeeping #ncbeekeeping #urbanbeekeeping #warrebeekeeping #beekeepingsupplies #beekeeping #beekeepingaddiction #naturalbeekeeping #beginnerbeekeeping #oxxbeekeeping #beekeeping101

Final day teaching this year's new beekeepers. Today was a recap of everything covered including managing swarming, making frames correctly and transferring a nucleus colony to a full hive. Now the real work starts for those who decide to take up the craft.

You can learn a lot about a hive and its activities by looking at the pull drawer of a screened bottom. I can see where the brood nest is centered, that they are building wax and gathering pollen, and sometimes see signs of pests or diseases. On this one I can also see where there were gaps in their cover and water got in during the recent rain (though those gaps are now filled in with propolis). Opens this hive today I found an abundance of pollen but very little nectar- this hive was the first swarm I caught this year and I have been feeding as little as possible but I have provided them with about a pint of syrup to ensure they can keep their strength up. #summerdearthiscoming #urbanbeekeeping #sacramentobeekeeping #gaypiary

Rise & Grind! ☀️ Early morning is the perfect time to inspect your hives. It’s nice and cool out and the bees aren’t as active as they are in the afternoon. The smoke pushes the bees back into the hive and provides the beekeeper with a little time to poke around and inspect the frames. During a hive inspection you look for a lot of things but here’s a few of the big ones... . ✅ Bee larvae: You want to make the Queen is laying. . ✅ Mites or deformed wings: Mites devastate the hive. If you see them or warning signs you need to act fast. . ✅ Queen cells: If the bees are building queen cells it’s a warning sign that the queen may be having problems. . ✅Frame patterns: Inspect the build out of the frames for honey, pollen, and capped frames. You want a nice even pattern across your frames. . . . #urbanbeekeeper #urbanbeekeeping #beekeeper #beekeeping #backyardbees #backyardfarm #familyfarm #urbanfarm #minifarm #dvwfarms #sacfarm2fork #sacramento #ediblegarden #ediblelandscape #growfood #growingfood #growyourfood #growwhatyoueat

Great things happening with our bees as well! If you look closely you can see the curled up larva next to the capped brood cells. All hail Queen Theodora! #urbanbeekeeping

Various stages of instars for honeybee larvae in beautiful new comb 😍 If you didnt see my story, basically I have 2 hives. One was queenless with a sharp drop in population. They don't need 3 boxes due to such a low population, so I used a bee escape to enable them to travel to the lowest brood box and not return to the above chambers. I also took a frame of eggs and larvae from my fully functioning productive hive, shook all the bees off the frame and popped it in my queenless hive. #keepbeeslikeagirl #urbanbeekeeping #bostonglobelife #igersmass #igersnewengland #igerssalem #witchcity

like every time after the honey harvest, my bees get the hureld honeycombs back. The bees snack the remaining honey and in the end there is not even a drop of honey left in the honeycomb🐝🍯☺️✌🏼 . wie jedes mal nach der Honigernte bekommen meine Bienen die ausgeschleuderten Honigwaben zurück. Die Bienen naschen dann den restlich Honig darin und am Ende ist nicht mal mehr ein Tropfen Honig in den Waben🍯🐝☺️✌🏼 . #beesofinstagram #urbanbeekeeping #savethebees #beesting #beeswaxcandles #pollination #ilovebees #hive #saveourbees

Look at those pollen pants! 😍Pollen is the protein source for the honeybee. Without pollen, honeybees could not raise their young. No pollen = No young bees. No young bees leads to the demise of the colony. After a long winter, many hives are lacking pollen stores. Spring blooms are essential, for the survival of the colony. Think twice before spraying those beautiful yellow dandelions. Ask yourself...is a “golf course lawn” really more important than caring for the creatures that pollinate our food? 🙏🐝💚 . . . Little public relations visit with my friends at Engine House #17 Brushton Homewood. Thanks to these guys we rescued a SWARM last year from a 40 foot tree outside the Homewood Apiary. This was a special Purdue Queen that we was under a study program in the PA Queen Improvement Program. The guys brought the ladder truck and we got the colony hived. It oversintered and is going strong. I brought them a jar of extracted honey from the colony as a Thank You for their community support. piary #bees #cityofpitysburgh #firemen #firefighters #urbanbeekeeper #savethebees #urbanbeehive #pollinator #bee #hive #beehive #honeybee #localfood #beepollen #rawhoney #apiculture #pollinators #beeswax #beesofinstagram #apiarylife #urbanbeekeeping #urbanbees #swarm

“Telling the Bees” - In many places there is a beautiful tradition that Bees are considered part of the family and must be informed therefore of all family deaths and special events. Superstition tells us; if their master dies, they must be told and put into mourning, for if this is not done, they will pine away and die, or abandon their hives and fly away. ⠀ Little is known about the origins of this practice, although there is some unfounded speculation that it is loosely derived from or perhaps inspired by ancient Aegean notions about bees' ability to bridge the natural world with the afterlife. The custom is widely known in England, but has also been recorded in Ireland, Wales, Germany, Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Bohemia, and the United States⠀ Some of you may know of the recent loss of Bill’s dad. He passed on May 28th and since then we have had 3 swarms, 2 from the same hive. Two nights ago, an article about “Telling the bees” appeared in my Facebook news feed. I have spent the last 4 years researching information about bees and beekeeping and have NEVER come across this practice.⠀ The bees have most definitely become part of our family and even though it is swarm season, “telling the bees” felt like the right thing to do. So, I cut up pieces of black cloth and as I placed them on each hive I knocked (looked around to make sure no one was watching haha) and whispered that Bill Sr, a dear member of the family had passed and to please stay with us, that we would continue to take good care of them.⠀ ⠀ Check out this video from Holland in the early 1900s: https://buff.ly/2F6MI0c⠀ Here is a great article if you want to read more: https://buff.ly/2EOV4t4⠀ ⠀ #tellingthebees #family #beachcomberbee #beachcomberhoney #hivetospoon #wildflowers #shoresoflakehuron #purerawnaturalhoney #urbanhoney #backyardbeekeeping #urbanbeekeeping #honey #wildflowerhoney #beekeeperslife #bees #savethebees

Seeing beautiful pollinators coexist together in harmony brings me so much peace. In the first pic you see a bumble bee on the left gathering nectar and pollen alongside a honeybee on the right. The second pic shows a monarch butterfly in its larval or caterpillar form. Monarchs are known to nest on these milkweed plants. These little creatures all thrive without interfering with each other.🐛 🐝 🌞

The bee population has dropped by about one third over the last few years – if we lose bees, we have about four years to live as a species!⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Help us save the human species from destroying its own habitat!⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Find more information at www-make-it-official.com (link in bio) ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ #makeitofficial #endangeredspecies #savetheplanet #savebees #beekeeping #urbanbeekeeping #savethebees #beesofinstagram #instabee #weareresponsible #timetomakeachange #timetomakeadifference #actonclimatechangenow #doyourpart #ecofriendlyliving #maketheeartgreatagain #planttrees #gogreen #treesarelife #livesustainably #thinkfuture #climatechange #protectingtheworld #SaveThePlanet #ourfuture #selfsustainable #environmentalcrisis #gogreen 📸 Eric Ward

Looks like rainy days behind us. Army of bees coming back to hive loaded with nectar and pollen. By colour of pollen we can identify from what plant is it. Don't ask me about bee with pollen on this photo. Soon as the rain stops this small colony takes advantage and starts bringing in Pollen. Can see plenty of grey pollen from the blackberry.
