5. #IYRTITL by #Drake | This record is easily Drake’s best effort. The beats are absolutely fire, and the minimalistic structure of them definitely work to his advantage. Drake doesn’t sound insecure anymore on this record either, he sounds empowered and in control. As well as this, the album boasts what I think is his most impressive song, No Tellin’. 4. #FlowerBoy by #tylerthecreator | This record has the most creative production for a rap record I have ever heard in my life. It literally sounds like bee’s and flowers. It is eccentric, eclectic, and electric. The synths are amazing and the riffs are creative and melodic as well as percussive. Tyler sounds grown and into his own on this record too, which was much needed after his lackluster efforts prior.
3. #GKMC by #kendricklamar | A powerful opening statement for Kendrick Lamar and one of the best produced and voiced rap records of all time. The story here is powerful and plays out like a movie, which is amazingly entertaining and ear grabbing right from the start. Kendrick not only has bars, but production as well. The trap-esque beats paired with his lyrics is a deadly combination. The 12 minute monster, Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst is a highlight of Kendrick’s career, and the beat switchup is masterful
2. #TPAB by #kendricklamar | Kendrick’s follow up to GKMC was great by release and has gotten even better soon. An instant classic when it dropped, this album will stand the test of musical time forever. The theme is brilliance, and tracks such as u and These Walls make me thank god for this man. .
1. #MBDTF by #kanyewest | One of the greatest hip hop records of all time, #Kanye West shaped the rap landscape to what it is today with this amazing concept record on his fame and relevance. He paved the way for the rest of the records on this list to be possible, and his banging production and insightful lyrics makes this album the top of my list
