We use coping skills and distractions to try to stop and distract our brains from feeling so much - from racing thoughts or from negative thoughts. What I have learned over the years, though, is how to not despise or suppress my thoughts and my symptoms, but just sit with them...acknowledge them...just "be"...even if I am feeling severely depressed and anxious.
If all I can do is be still, close my eyes and let my racing, negative, emotional thoughts become white noise in the background, I then leave more room for my spirit, faith and soul to take over - to rise up from within me and remind me that I will be okay. I will be more than okay. And I always am, even when I don't feel like I'm going to be.
I lean into my faith, try to reach out for support and I ride out the storm. Because even though there may be a raging storm happening all around me, or inside of me, from depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD or grief, I can still find peace and healing when I am right in the middle of it. So can you. ♡ You are not alone.
