Start your work week by putting your best foot forward but what if you just crushed leg day and your legs don’t work anymore? ⠀⠀ Building power requires you to lift a bit heavier than you normally would but your reps are shorter. If you want to become stronger, you have to lift weight that’s challenging and this has to be done with good form. ⠀⠀ This little combo of mine - is one of my ultimate favourites because it requires my muscles react as efficiently as they can when stimulated by the nerves. Pause Power Squats w/ Box jumps 😊😊😊 Neuromuscular firing is a beautiful thing. The heavier the weight got - the easier I could do the box jump. The height of the box was constant from start to finish but the weights on the bar where not. This is because the muscles were already warmed but they were still benefitting from the pause squats. My muscles where used to coming up with 300+lbs on my back from the squats so when I went into the same stance for the box jumps, they thought they had to move the same weight, resulting in more muscle fibers firing which = a smoother jump.

⚠️At home workouts aren’t good enough to see real results.⚠️⁣ ⁣ 🤔Um…what?!🤨⁣ ⁣ That’s a big fat NOPE on that one.⁣ ⁣ How can you workout at home and achieve results just as well as someone who works out in a gym❓⁣ ⁣ ➡️Find a dedicated workout area.⁣ This could be in your garage, in your living room, you child's room, the kitchen! (I could go on, but you get the point...there are no limitations.)⁣ ⁣ ➡️Purchase just a few pieces of equipment.⁣ If you’re working out at home I recommend a small variety of dumbbells (to start usually 5’s, 10’s, and 15’s are enough), some resistance bands, and a yoga mat. All of these things can be purchased on Amazon, at a big box store like WalMart or Target, or even TJ Maxx/Marshalls.⁣ ⁣ ➡️Schedule your workouts into your calendar.⁣ Make it a non negotiable. The hardest thing for me when working out from home is finding every excuse to not do it (I’ll notice dishes that need to be washed, floors that need to be cleaned, food that needs to be cooked, etc.). Put it in your calendar just like you would any other appt that you plan on keeping.⁣ ⁣ ➡️Have a plan!⁣ Whether you make up your workouts on your own or follow a plan that you get from someone else, make sure that you know what you’re doing before you start your workout. Put others’ happiness and health before your own? Me too▪️ . I empathize with my clients’...because I have likely been through similar situations. And if I haven’t? I don’t just GIVE ADVICE. I put myself in their shoes, think “how would I feel”, and do my best to step into their shoes and view the situation through a different perspective🙌🏽 . This prep to the Arnold’s means a lot to me because, for the first time, I feel ENOUGH. I don’t feel like I have to look a certain way, act a certain way, or BE like someone else. This is so important to me. People who haven’t worked through their own issues or been taught to manage - because seriously, how many times are managers promoted on work experience with no regard for people skills - will often look for every opportunity to position themselves above you. This asymmetry whether it’s based on knowledge, (supposed) previous success or even being the more giving one in the relationship creates a hierarchy which isn’t good for any relationship. • But there is a natural hierarchy in the workplace, Sof. I hear ya. But that’s a formal system which has nothing to do with self worth or believing in yourself. In fact, those that are more senior have more responsibility to mentor and help others. This comes from a place of security on their behalf stemming from a place of self awareness. Those aware of their strengths AND where they need to grow can be confident in both and lift others up while continuing to work on themselves. (Whew, that’s a lot.) • If you’re experiencing this, raise it with the person - perhaps they’re unaware - or, remove yourself from the relationship. Practice boundaries and self love by isolating yourself from their insecurities. You don’t have to take on everything they do or say. Remember, your own growth should come from a place of love, not pressure. ⚡️💙 #liveyourpower #freetothrive

Yoga at @specialized_au Once a week I teach lunch time yoga for the staff at Specialized and it’s been amazing to see their practice progress over the time I e been there. There practice is designed to support and compliment their lifestyles. Yes they sit at desks so part of the practice is to reverse the effects of sitting but also to support their running, riding & other activities they do. The practice serves a different purpose for each of them. For some it’s their active recovery between training & race days &, for some it’s a way to unravel the body after hours on the bike & for some it’s more about an hour of mindful movement to reset the body and mind. Here is a snap of a practice that focused on activating the deep neck flexors, decompressed the spine, activated the core, mobilised the thoracic spine & hips. Eres de los que realiza sentadilla “a medias”?? O mejor dicho Realizas sentadilla a 90grados? Te decimos que para trabajar aún mejor, tener un crecimiento favorable y fortalecer el músculo deberás realizarlas profundas ya que de la otra manera estarás solo trabajando la parte del cuadricep y los demás músculos no estarán tan activados. (No decimos que la de 90 grados no sirva, claro que sirve incluso en esta puedes cargar un poco más ya que el rango de movimiento de la articulación de la rodilla y la cadera no llegan a ser completos, pero debes saber realizarla... al momento de la bajada el cartílago que rodea la articulación de la rodilla se comprime y al llegar a los 90 se puede decir que estamos en el punto más alto de presión de la la rótula sobre el fémur y es ahí donde nuestras rodillas pueden verse comprometidas). Para realizar una sentadilla profunda deberás poner atención en tu posición ... coloca los pies a la anchura de tus hombros aprox. Con la punta de los pies mirando hacia enfrente, cuida que tus rodillas no pasen las puntas de los pies, siempre mirando hacia enfrente teniendo una postura correcta y un equilibrio adecuado. OJO: para poderlas realizar bien deberás manejar pesos que puedas realmente cargar ... nos referimos a calidad sobre cantidad. No siempre el cargar mucho peso será mejor, la aplicación y la concentración con que realices el ejercicio es lo que cuenta (aun así hagas con 15 kilos) hazlo concentrado. This week’s edition of #YARDOLOGY... meet the💥🍑DUMBBELL SUMO DEADLIFT🍑💥 . BABY GOT BACK... and you might be reciting all the lyrics to “Baby Got Back” after taking this exercise for a test drive. . The Dumbbell Sumo Deadlift is a great way to train the posterior chain (glutes, hamstrings, back) quads and core, without loading the vertebrae. . Setup with your feet wider than hip width and an external rotation of the feet. This stance will vary depending on the individual so there is NOT a one size fits all model. Whatever is most comfortable for you. . Align the dumbbell up on end, right under neath your hips. Maintaining a neutral torso, allow your arms to hang straight down, finger tips pointed towards the floor, tracking inside your legs. . Hinge your hips back, allowing your torso and chest to fall forward, sit your butt down and grab a hold of the edges of the dumbbell. . Create tension throughout the entire body, eliminating all laxity in the upper body by engaging your lats. . Take a large inhale and appropriate bracing of the midsection (think about your lungs and diaphragm as a big balloon, fill that balloon!) Drive the floor apart with the weight on the outsides and middle of the foot, elevating the dumbbell up to your hips. Complete the repetition in an erect position with your hips and knees fully extended. . This can also be done utilizing a kettlebell (or 2) and/or with your feet elevated on plates or risers to increase range of motion. . Utilize this drill as an accessory exercise or as a regression from Barbell Sumo Deadlifts. 3-4 sets of 6-15 reps should have you feeling fine as wine. . 🎥 @thisiswily

One of my fitness goals this year is to stretch more. 🤸‍♂️🧘‍♀️Stretching, foam rolling, and other mobility work can do SO much good for your body - especially for those of us who sit in office chairs all day hunched over a screen! . Pre-workout, try stretching out any areas that are chronically tight in your body. If you sit a lot, this probably includes your calves and hip flexors. The journey to get to where I am - as a coach and entrepreneur - required that I turn the tables, so to speak, on life expectations. You know, those "I should be doing this by this age" or "I should have this by this time". The expectations that so many of us feel pressured by to make sure we are on the "right" timeline. After working so hard for 5 years of college/grad school and patiently taking half-time teaching jobs in pursuit of my dream teaching postion, I finally got my dream (or so I thought): tenure! But something was missing. Some creative aspect, some of my own agency & identity. Soon I found myself questioning whether I even liked what I was doing. This was what I had been working for for so long, right??? Flash forward to meeting @cemitche and the universe filling the void that my teaching gig simply couldn't. Faced with the option to stay comfortable but a little unfulfilled or live on the edge of fear and go after my dreams full force with @treadhappy , I knew I had to FLIP THE SCRIPT on what would be safe and expected. Absolutely love my pink Himalayan salt lamp! If you don’t have one, get your hands on one. The warm glow it gives off helps me relax in such a deep way, no blue light!It tells my mind its time to unwind and it’s so beautiful to look at. My PB‼️I managed 3 reps with an added 10kgs + 2 reps with an added 15kgs. I NEVER thought I would be able to get this strong. 💪🏽I was happy with just body weight chin ups and pull ups. Who says you can’t get strong whilst dieting? I have been slightly worried that cutting down calories may reduce my strength but when you are doing the right program with consistency and nutrition you will start gaining more lean muscle and decreasing body fat it almost makes it impossible to not get stronger whilst getting leaner. Also believing that you can! Because you SO can! It starts with mindset from the get go. Sometimes we are crippled by fear. I truly believe by believing you can you will.
