Take one bite of these Jimmy Nardello peppers and you'll know why they are a team favorite. A type of Italian frying pepper, they have an addictive sweet and fruity flavor. Good thing they grow well in our climate because we couldn't imagine summer without them!

Guess what? You don't have to quit meat cold turkey to be an ethical meat eater. In fact, you don't have to quit meat at all.🌻 . So many meat eaters I've had conversations with over the last two years have shared their values with me: eating healthy delicious food, supporting communities and farmers, protecting the environment, giving animals a humane life on pasture. And it's absolutely possible to eat meat that meets those values. . The problem is that almost all of the meat and animal products lining the shelves of conventional grocery stores come from factory farming. And those options are the cheapest and the ones we're used to grabbing on our quick hustle in and out of the grocery store. So we need some better habits. . Habits are hard to build. They take time. They take patience. They take effort. They take change. And you know what? The habits that help us live in alignment with our values are worth building, 100% of the time. . Here's what we can do instead: Spend a little more on ethically raised meat. Buy meat directly from farmers we know and trust. Source from farmers markets and CSAs that put your values first. Say no to factory farmed products and yes to plant-based options if you can't find pasture-raised meat. And take action whenever you can to make farming easier for sustainable, pasture based farms, not for factory farming corporate agribusinesses. Give a big ol' double tap if you agree 💛 * * * * * #greenerpastures #supportsustainablefarming #humaneagriculture #sustainableagriculture #ethicalfarming #nofactoryfarms #simpleliving #slowlivinglifestyle #kindfood #certifiedhumane #shopyourvalues #shopyourvaluesmn #buylocal #shoporganic #pasturebasedfarming #pastureraised #foodlabelsdecoded #foodlabels101 #t #savvyshopper #eatmoremagic #verilymoment #verilyfood #CSA #farmersmarket #farmdirect #turkeys #theartofslowliving #justgoodfood

See those chicken houses in the background? I always say they are the thorn in my side. But really God has a sense of humor because we have a visual of how not to raise chickens. Rule number one in sustainable farming, if it stinks you are doing something wrong. ⁣ Those chicken houses grow "natural" chicken for Bell and Evans. Funny because I see the feed truck and I know they dont have GMO and soy free feed🤔 Yet they market their chicken to make you think you are buying better quality.⁣ ⁣ Secondly if you peak in these ginormous factory farm structures, yes you will see "cage free" but they cram roughly 34,000 birds into to a 36,000 square feet house. This breed of bird has been bred to sit by the feeder and eat. ⁣ Sickening. ⁣ ⁣ We love to compare the rate our laying hens and broilers grow. The broilers would sit by their food all day if allowed while the laying hens still have wild instincts to catch bugs. We have to ration the food and retrain the broilers to forage. ⁣ ⁣ All that to say, know your farmer. Are your meat chickens and laying hens allowed to roam free on pasture and eat insects? ⁣ ⁣ What feed are they supplementing with? ⁣ ⁣ Our feed comes from River Nutrition. All mixed in house and it is soy free and GMO free. ⁣ ⁣ This is free range, humane raised chicken. The second picture is not. Don't be fooled. I will be uploading a resource list within the next month of local farms where you can purchase quality meat. Stay tuned. On another note, who would want to learn how to butcher meat birds if we have a class?

I recall having a discussion with @callenderwifey about my rotten luck with avocados and I took notes on how to pick a good one and hopefully cut it when it's just ripe. And since I'm all for local produce, I came across @mandiproject and had the same conversation. However, with so much encouragement (yes you read that right. You've not seen me sulk when fruit goes bad. I need loads of consolation post that) I decided to buy avocados for the last time to try my luck. First off. Local produce is so good. It reflects in the taste. Second, my Avo Salsa is a winner. It was perfect! Thanks @callenderwifey for the tips and thank you @mandiproject for doing all in your capacity to promote local produce and thank you @pachasgram for the wonderful avocados For those in Bombay do follow @mandiproject and stay up to date on their 'farmers' market' days. We love this post about soil. All the life of this land, all the beauty, and all our futures rely on it. Thanks for sharing @farmersfootprint. #Repost ・・・ The magnitude of damage that has been done to the soil is overwhelming. Instead of letting mother nature lead, we’ve delegated soil health to chemical companies and in doing so, our own health. We forget how intertwined our soil is to our own inner ecosystem. What we do to the soil we do to our own biology. If the soil is depleted, so is the food we eat. If the food we eat is devoid of nutrients, so are we. If the soil is full of toxins, so are we and so is our planet. There has never been a more critical time in human history to share the story of our soil health and take action in our daily lives. In honor of #SoilHealthDay here are a few changes you can make to move toward a more sustainable, regenerative world. Plant a garden. Even if it’s just an organic array of herbs growing in your kitchen, start somewhere now. Support the right people. If you don’t have access to a garden or farm, you can still help by spending your money on businesses that use regenerative practices. Spread the message. The concept of regenerative agriculture is new to many. By sharing, you play an important role in raising awareness and changing the future. Read more about our mission @farmersfootprint to join the cause to bring soil health back to the hands of the ultimate soil health expert - mother nature. If we can do this, we have a chance at better health and a better world. . . . . . 📷 @nicolragland #soilheatlh #humanhealth #healthesoil #climatechange #foodismedicine #natureisperfect #getoutside #ancienttruth #bethechange #allofustogether #newparadigm #breathe #regenerativeag #futurist #biohacking #guthealth #microbiome #regenerativeagriculture #sustainableagriculture #farm365 #gutbrainconnection #sustainablefarming #sustainability #climatechange #guthealth #thefutureisnow #zachbush

One meal kind of day yesterday (mustard and ketchup was sugar free). I was not hungry around the time I usually have my first meal so I skipped it and kept working instead. I think most of us have lost our sense of REAL hunger and one of the things I love about eating natural foods is that you get that sense back! 👌

In the past, to keep hens safe from predators and disease, Australian farmers developed a new system of production whereby flocks were housed in individual cages about the size of a sheet of A4 paper. By the ‘80s, caged eggs accounted for 80 per cent of consumption in Australia.⠀ The system proved highly efficient, but according to animal welfare groups was cruel as it restricted the birds’ behavioural needs.⠀ In the past decade, the movement has sparked a return to non-cage production systems that allow hens to move around freely and enjoy a better quality of life. Today, nearly 45 per cent of all eggs sold in Australia prescribe to animal welfare norms.⠀ This issue at AusBiz we meet three Australian egg farmers who’ve transitioned from cage to non-cage systems, including one who’s pioneered an entirely new way to house hens – a system that’s being adopted by farmers all over the world.⠀ Click the link in our bio to read more.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #ausbizmag #publishingbychelle #australianeggs #aussieeggs #australianchickens #australianhens #aussiehens #aussiechickens #freerangeeggs #freerangehens #farminginvention #farminginventions #australianfreerangeeggs #goldeneggs #luckychickeneggs #oxhillorganics #chickencaravan #chickens #chickensofinstagram #hens #hensofinstagram #sustainableagriculture #sustainableagricultureprogram

We had such a fun time over the weekend touring a local  #aquaponics backyard farm in  #Tempe ! 🥬🌱🌽Led by our #SustainableFoodSystems team, we got to meet Ed Williams, creator of the "LEHR" garden (Linking Ecosystems and Hardware for Regeneration). The backyard farm creates a complete functioning ecosystem that creates soil, self-waters, and utilizes fish, earthworms and chicken droppings to enhance the soil biology, store nutrients, and balance spikes in nitrogen and high pH in water. 🐟🐔💧Because of this, the system is super water efficient and is low maintenance- perfect for Arizona! It definitely got us thinking for how we can bring this gardening technique to more areas in our communities! . . . #Sustainability #SustainableFood #backyardfarm #myphx #reimaginephx #volunteer #volunteering #nonprofit #sustainableenergy #sustainableliving #sustainablefarming #sustainablefood #foodsustainability #thinkgreen #innovation #backyardgarden #garden #gardeningideas #sustainableagriculture #sustainablefood #aquaponicsystem #aquaponic #aquaponicgarden #farming

WHY I SAY 'YES' TO MEAT CONSUMPTION: . .I received a well-constructed argument on one of my previous posts from @__no.hagas.dano__ . I wanted to share my lengthy reply in this post so more people would have a chance to read it. For context, please go back and read the original post. It’s the post of a chicken foot (kind of hard to miss). It was posted on April 29, 2019  so it’s not too far down. . .I recommend reading @__no.hagas.dano__ 's reply to my post in which he makes an argument for veganism. My reply to his comment follows: . .Thank you for your thoughtful reply! Animal agriculture is inherently unethical? I disagree with this statement. Animal agriculture is a natural process we have used for over 12,000 years to feed ourselves. If your argument is simply: killing an animal is unethical no matter what - we’re just not going to agree on that, period. . .I’m not sure how you’re reaching the conclusion: by supporting ethically raised meat I’m admitting animal agriculture is unethical. Treating animals humanely is simply a return to farming as it existed since the agricultural revolution. Factory farming isn’t a natural extension of farming, it’s a sad result of modern society. . .You make a fair point about those of us who partake in animal products eating more than we necessarily need to. That said, I think it’s worth looking into the work of @sustainabledish. She makes an incredible case for the damage farming certain crops can cause to the environment. These crops (like soybeans) are often found in a plant-based diet. I’m not an expert on environmental sustainability by any means, however I’m educated enough to know  eating (even large amounts) of ethically-raised meat is not the issue. . .I find your last rant slightly condescending, but I’ll try to overlook that and answer your question: "what do you mean by thrive in the context of your caption?" As a nutritional therapy practitioner, my main concern is the overall health of my client and how I can improve their health through a properly prepared, nutrient dense, whole food diet. (continued below in the comments)

Volunteers gather to transform the host’s land into an edible food forest in one day, using design elements and projects selected by the host in consultation with @bostonfoodforest It was a wonderful experience on a beautiful day!
