Soft, diffused light, the last of the day’s, weighed upon our already heavy eyes. Two hares, play fighting atop the horizon of the winding gravel road ahead of us, took up the slack. For the quietness of our tiredness was shared, shared with that of the swans, ducks, pheasants, a handful of grounded flocks and perhaps a heron or two. There’s something special in this, sleepy shared quietness, something tangible. A silent, communal send-off to what was a beautiful, sleepy day.
