The moments before taking a heavy squat are some of the happiest of my life. - At this moment, I’m angry, yes. And my yelling, cussing, and rage against the machine blasting at full volume as I walk up to the bar will let anyone in hearing distance know this, but make no mistake I am happy. For the first time in months, the anxieties and frustrations that are constantly in my head have no power over me. They’re still present, but they are finally focused. Focused into one violent, forceful expression that will not harm me or my mindset but rather boost my sense of self-worth and satisfaction, reenforcing the value of all the hard training done in the months leading up to a meet. In those few moments, I feel invincible. - Plus, there’s always at least one guy saying “no way he’s going to squat that,” and I really, really love shutting him up. #teamsocalpowerlifting

1 year between these two pictures. Fun fact: I weigh the EXACT same in both. 😳 Extremely happy with the progress I’ve made over the past year. I love helping others like you reach your fitness goals, so I figured I’d give you all a list of things I did over the past year that led me to where I am today. Get your pad and paper out. 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 . . 🔸Had too many beers 🔸Ate an entire large pizza (on multiple occasions) 🔸Forgot to fruits/veggies some days 🔸Skipped workouts 🔸Skipped exercises 🔸Didn’t drink enough water 🔸Was low on protein 🔸Lacked intensity in the gym some days 🔸Went days without working out 🔸Ate too much ice cream, cake, cookies, etc on special occasions 🔸Ate too little calories 🔸Ate too many calories 🔸Ate fast food . . Oh don’t worry, there’s more. 👇🏼 . . 🔹Tracked my water intake 🔹Hit calorie targets 🔹Pushed myself in the gym 🔹Focused on getting stronger 🔹Ate plenty of fruits and veggies 🔹Made home cooked meals 🔹Chose yogurt instead of ice cream 🔹Meal prepped some weekends 🔹Only had a few slices of pizza 🔹Went to the gym even if I was tired 🔹Hit all of my workouts for the week 🔹Got adequate sleep 🔹Chose whole, minimally processed foods . . You see, I did everything on that list... even on multiple occasions. The key here? The amount of times I did the things listed in 🔹 far outweighed the amount of times I did the things in 🔸. . . The point here? Unless you’re 3 weeks out from competition, or are willing to sacrifice a ton from your relationships, social life, and enjoyment in life just for some visible abs- STOP STRESSING OVER PERFECTION. 🙅🏻‍♂️ . . Far too many people stress themselves out over being perfect with their nutrition, can’t live up to that expectation, get frustrated, and end up giving up because they think they failed. You don’t have to be perfect to see progress over time, you just have to be CONSISTENT. 👌🏼 . . CONSISTENCY > PERFECTION. 🙌🏼 . . Interested in Online Coaching? The last time I set a new personal best for my deadlift was exactly one year ago. Today I wanted to see what I could do and I wasn’t completely disappointed because I pulled 485 pounds with a hook grip making it a new deadlift PR and hook grip PR! I really wanted to pick up 500 pounds and I almost had it but my callus on my left hand wasn’t having it. That’s ok I’ll get it next month! #deadlift #sumodeadlift #powerlift

Knowing your body is critical to longevity in the weight room. 👍. - With increased cardio and another slight calorie reduction the last two weeks to finish off the #bbcomchallengeseries strong, I lightened the load and worked on sumo deadlifts instead of pulling conventional. - I’ve been proud to have kept at least triples at 5 plates for deads, and 4 plates for squats through this entire cut, but when the body is really starting to feel worn, it isn’t the time to stick to a weight for the ego!. - Today will be the last leg day of this thing and another lighter one, but I look forward to putting some weight back on the bar next week with some extra calories and less fatigue present. 👍

If you really want to strengthen your posterior, then give this a try! 🔑 Hip Extensions, position yourself over the pad to allow your torso to come down near a 90 degree angle with a tight core. 🔑 Sumo Deadlifts, start with light weight to find the best leg positioning and hand placement. Keep your chest up, knees driving out, and focus finishing with your hips! . How heavy can you go! Give this a try for your next Open gym session. Turn on notifications for future Optional WODs. . Strength physical and mental is built over time. Some times you have the chance to prove how strong you've got... You can be surprised for good or for bad. There are good and bad days, nothing is linear but day by day you're getting stronger (despite of the low days ) if you keep working on it. . . Last heavy sesh before Nationals... Deadlift didn't go as good as expected but I'll take the good,forget the bad and hope for the best. If I did it once ,sure as fuck I can do it again.
