MOVING AIR 💨 Few people think breathing and muscles have anything to do with each other. Even fewer associate breathing (or lack thereof) with injury. But if you look at Melinda’s trunk and hip alignment with her knees and elbows on the wall, you can see the swayback nature of her posture. Her chest is full of air, and her back is under a lot of pressure (she’s already had 3+ spine surgeries, including a fused sacrum). Performing a modified Serratus Wall Squat ( @posturalrestoration ), my client exhales her ribs down in the front, moving air to her back, allowing her structure to properly support her weight. I sped up the video for affect. You can watch her back become supported and stable, her shoulder blades dropping down away from her ears, and the simple aesthetic of returning to a healthy posture. This is one of hundreds of exercises designed to breathe you back to a better body. When applied to strength programs, the body becomes unstoppable.

At our appointment today we found out that his joints are stressed in his ankles and knees. He will need AFOs to assist in helping correct this a bit. Serial casting may help as well. He basically has -5° flex in both ankles where on average we should have +20°. What this means is that while we use our ankle joint to flex our foot up and down. He uses his Subtalar Joint. The one used to move our foot side to side. All this combined means yes his feet joints are majorly stressed but it is also causing his knee joints to begging bowing. Joints rubbing together. In the long run this will cause ostioarthritis before he in 20 years old. The solution will be the casting and AFOs He is sore. He is tired but he wants to do whatever it will take to help his body. Keeping active plus taking a break to correct at least a bit and relieve some pain. ✨ Strength Goals ✨ Girls usually laugh at me when I tell them I’d like to see them do a push up, one day. 🙈 They laugh even harder when I tell them I’d like to prepare them for a body weight chin up! #goodonebek . But it’s not funny - it’s achievable for many of you. 💪 . The ingredients to get there, include: ▪️The right technique. ▪️The right starting point. For the push up, I have clients use a bench or a bar to start, set at a height where they can comfortably perform 12-15 reps. ▪️The right progressions over time - lower the bar a little, once you’ve gotten comfy with 12-15 reps. Stay challenged! ▪️Consistently train that movement. ▪️And then, I’ll lower the reps with each new program. There are plenty of runners who don't need or like races. I'm not one of them. I do like running for running's sake, but I also like going and finding a race that presents an opportunity to push myself to do something new (new pace, new distance, different terrain). I like putting a plan together for a big scary goal and seeing where the training takes me, because I learn something new about myself every time. As much as runners say stuff like, "It's the cheapest sport in the world! Just go get some shoes and get out there!", that's not *entirely* true, and it's especially not true if you want to sign up for races. I am extraordinarily lucky to be able to afford to race when I want. I really really dig that there's a org like @runinstride that helps low-income runners buy race bibs so they can go out and chase down their goals, too! Thanks for the new singlet, @runinstride ! I can't wait to get after some big scary stuff in it this summer!

Comfort zones and cardio. Nothing kills progress and goals faster than a well established comfort zone. For years I’ve preached the dangers of a comfort zone to all types. Those afraid of pressing weight, those afraid of changing up their workouts, and those afraid of cardio. And I was the hypocrite who fell into the latter. So now I’m taking my own medicine. I’m firmly outside of my comfort zone with 3-4 days of HIIT cardio a week on top of my weight training 6 days per week. And man can I not only see, but FEEL the immense difference. First in my day to day life. I have so much more energy now. I breath, feel, rest and live better. I have a much stronger control over my diabetes management and general overall health. And here’s the real bonus, I am dominating my weight training like never before. All thanks to cardio. My oxygen and blood flow is so much better giving me those incredible pumps. My stamina is through the roof. I’m starting and finishing every workout strong. I feel incredible. Sure. Those 30 minutes of HIIT with @douggentry_ are hell. Absolutely brutal. But after, and the positive affects carried forward are so worth that price. If it were easy, it wouldn’t be work. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents on cardio and comfort zones. ||Motivation is crap. It comes and goes. Find what your passionate about. Then you can be driven. When you’re driven, you don’t give a damn-David Goggins|| ✨We have so many bad days, trying to get up again can be hard. Motivating yourself everyday can be so god damn tough. I’ve been there with my ulcerative colitis flares, literally being put on your back and having to fight to get up again, to start from square one all over again. I knew I needed to move and eat nutritious foods to start feeling better. So I’d do a small workout daily, modifying literally every exercise until I built strength and muscle again. Some days I would have to stop every 30seconds to catch my breath but I kept going, even if it was just for 10 minutes. I couldn’t really eat too much so I would juice everything and drink these juices 6 times a day and from there I fought back. These times have definitely made me mentally stronger. But we’ve all had these times. So use these times to build that ‘warrior mentality’, let it fuel you. Stop listening to others and listen to your own voice in your head. Make your passion YOU! Tonight was drop set night. 10 reps followed by 20 reps at half weight. 5 sets. The burn was bloody real. Just wish I could focus on lower half as I do top half but hey, suns out so is back and arms always in jeans 😂😂😂. 51 yrs young and getting stronger by the months. Worked on the wings and shoulders a bit today. 💪🏼🦅 Truly pushed to failure and that’s always an amazing feeling! 🤘🏼 • I’m making moves towards my powerlifting goals! I will be switching from @dalalovesdumbbells to a powerlifting coach in July. It’s bittersweet, but Dala is the most honest coach I have ever worked with. She easily could have thrown together a “powerlifting program” (and I’m sure a ton of online coaches probably do that to retain clients), but she was straight forward and told me that her expertise is in lifestyle coaching and she even gave me recommendations for powerlifting coaches. She is just an all around wonderful person and amazing coach (plus dat booty😻🍑🤷🏼‍♀️) Alright enough sappy stuff. Hahha. Cutting update:⁣ New low weigh-in this morning; 171.2. Haven’t seen that number since about this time last year. ⁣ ⁣ My body usually is pretty comfortable hanging out at 176 and is pretty stubborn to change in either direction. ⁣ ⁣ My goal is to hit 167 for summer and then maintain under 170 for awhile before either starting another cut or maybe a bulk for Nationals in October 🤔⁣ ⁣ What cha guys think? I love that Portugal is full of castles. It's so storybook I had a damn dove on my balcony this morning braiding my hair and two cats curled up around my feet for slippers while I watched the sunrise over cafe ole. I'm Princess Noportuguesespeakin ...and I'm the fairest lil trollop of them all... in the Algarve. Again... another title I'm ok with. . . . I don't know the name of this castle I'm afraid but I believe this is off the coast of Lisboa in the magical world of Disney. I believe that's accurate. I could live here if I were fluent...I don't think I would want to without knowing the language like I might in other countries and that's just my level of comfort being brown in Europe. I feel it's important to be honest about what that means and what its truly like. I'm a pretty princess in my heart, but I'm sensitive to the stares & faces as I move about. I don't let that show but it makes me sad here and there that I always have to be the tolerant adult. Now having said that, I'm a curvy ball of energy with red hair & I know that's not usual so I try to tough it out... ...but boy what a nice day it'll be when I won't feel I have to. #Repost @brandon_pfs with @get_repost ・・・ A slight twist on the razor curl, Nordic or whatever you want to call it. - Most trainers/coaches realize the benefit of developing lower body strength and power. And within this we realize the importance of hamstring strength and resilience for performance. The Nordic leg curl is pretty money for building hamstring strength. And eccentric resilience. - The problem I tend to see is if someone doesn’t have enough strength or maybe they don’t have the motor awareness they tend to extend a lot and use the back to execute the exercise. The pelvis dumps anteriorly and we get a lot of unnecessary stress on the low back. - In this video @tuffygosewisch is working on the Nordic curl but with a big reach around a PB ball. The reach helps create space and allow air to move into the upper back. This will help normalize breathing inhaled positions. Increase thoracic kyphosis, decrease lumbar lordosis and increase intra abdominal pressure. So basically make it really had to use your low back. It has been a tough couple of days for me. As many of you know I suffer with depression. The lost of my dog has put that depression into full swing. 😢 I find myself in bed just staring at his bed or outside crying by his grave. My routine has been off to say the least. It has been a struggle but I have been true to my goals and continue to workout. I really have not been eating but I do at least get down my superfood shake. Old me would have given up on all of it and just stayed in bed. I’m proud of my progress. I’m proud of changes I have made for myself. I miss Marley so very much but I know he is happy and I need to be too!!
