🌱Sprouting🌱 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sprouting is a great way to get some nutrient dense fresh food into your diet, especially if you’re living on a budget. So easy to do! And all you need is a clean Mason jar, seeds or legumes, cheese cloth, an elastic, and a bowl. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My favourite sprouts: mung (as seen here), broccoli, radish, lentil, alfalfa, sunflower ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Place about 2-3 Tbsp seeds or dry legumes of your choice into a large Mason jar and fill about 2/3rd full with water. Let them soak for about 8-12 hours. Fasten cheese cloth to the top of the jar with the elastic, and rinse and drain seeds/legumes twice. Let stand upside-down to drain (I balance it in a bowl) somewhere away from direct sunlight. Rinse and drain your sprouts 2-3 times a day (every 8-12 hours) until they reach the desired size (about 3-5 days). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For mung beans you want to sift through the sprouts at the end to pick out the hard, unspotted seeds. If you are looking for a new menu item to add to your dishes, I highly recommend you give sprouted lentils a shot! Lentils, in their natural state, are good sources of protein and carbs.  However, legumes like lentils can leave some people a bit bloated and gassy. Sprouting not only improves the digestibility of the lentil, but it also allows us to access more vitamins and minerals. So how do you sprout lentils? 1.  Take a 1/2 cup of lentils and cover them in a glass jar with at least two cups of cold water, covering with a piece of cheesecloth or light cloth that will not make the container airtight. 2.  Soak the lentils overnight. 3.  Next morning, drain the overnight water and then re-rinse. 4.  Place the jar at an angle allowing the excess water to drain out. 5.  Rinse the lentils 2-3 times a day until you start to see sprouts develop. 6.  Once the sprouts are at your desired length, they are ready to eat! I usually like to add them to the veggie medley stir fry that is a staple side with every one of my meals! I am having a hard time with adrenal fatigue, detox issues and high pain and when I do I always stick to one favourite dressing so I don't have to think about what I will make, my hands know the drill. Right now my favourite dressing is definitely my mango-cumin dressing (recipe in previous post). If I am to tird to make + eat a salad a go for a smoothie ir a simple banana + lettuce + sprouts meal. But to be honest salads have my heart and I am still and will alway be in love!!❤️ I'll post my go to fat free dressing tonight, which has quickly become another favourite of mine.🥰 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ P.s.: Ever since the sheeps have been shaved they are really shy, it is kind off funny when you think about it. Felt like every time I opened the grow box they had doubled in size. As they grow, they fill the space available. 1 plant grew a horizontal stalk to fill the gap the missing plant made. Started doing my sprouting after my wk vacation! Still on vacation mode... Mung bean or bean sprout! 1 c mung bean, soak overnight, then drain, water 2x/day, for 4days! Since mung beans are also consumed sprouted, it’s important to note that sprouting changes their nutritional composition. Sprouted beans contain fewer calories and more free amino acids and antioxidants than unsprouted ones. What’s more, sprouting reduces levels of phytic acid, which is an antinutrient. I'm currently running an experiment with my health. Changing up a lot of things. But the one I'm loving the most (for now) is sprouting broccoli seeds. Yup, you're reading that right. They're chock full of something called sulforaphane- and its concentration is much greater in sprouts than the fully grown plant (50x from memory). It's great for fighting chronic diseases, inflammation and cancer. So I've been faithfully sprouting them for a few weeks now and eating this instead of rice and pasta. Over this period my joint pain has reduced to negligible levels and my sleep has greatly improved. Obviously this doesn't prove causation but i do feel better with the changes I'm making. Who would have guessed that this is what I'd be doing as I approach 40..... you know what though? I'm loving life! #eatwell #healthy #happy #sprouting #kickass

Sprouting made cheap and easy !!! This will work for most kinds of seeds even the tiniest ones, such as alfalfa seed and broccoli seeds. I got this strainer for five dollars at Walmart. It’s stainless steel and it is the one with the very tight woven mesh. In order to sprout seeds you simply want to soak them for about 12 to 16 hours in pure water then you will need to drain the water and put them in the colander ... place over a bowl in case there is any dripping… Each day you will rinse them 1 to 2 times keeping them in a mildly lit area but not in direct sun. HOW TO SPROUT MUNG BEANS - #DIY MUNG BEAN SPROUTS ! 🌱 🌱I am so totally new to this. My sister guided me step by step in this super easy process.😬(thanks shawwty😘) 🌱I am sure many of you already know this process or into sprouting or have been doing it for years on end. This Video is for beginners like me. And also there are so many different ways of doing it, so many different tools online for sprouting. This cheesecloth method is a small and easy way to start off with. 🙌🏼 HAPPY SPROUTING!🌱 🌱Also, say bye bye to store bought sprouts.😎 . . WHAT YOU NEED 🌱Mung beans/ Pachai payaru/ Pesalu. 🌱Cheese cloth OR a nice thin clean cotton cloth. 🌱Colander/ strainer. . . 🌱soak desired mung beans in water overnight( 8-12 hours). 🌱throw away the water and rinse the beans thoroughly. 🌱place the cheese cloth on the colander/ strainer and strain out any remaining water. 🌱loosely pack the beans in(double lining). 🌱keep the beans in the dark because the seeds get bitter when they come in contact with light. 🌱after a few hours(about 8-9 hours. I packed them at 8AM and sprinkled water at 5PM) sprinkle some water(only sprinkle). And place it back in the shelf. 🌱24 hours later, your sprouts are ready. Give a quick rinse. 🌱Transfer into a bowl, pour clean water and let sit for 30 minutes( it will fluff up a little bit more). 🌱strain water. Transfer into a container and store in the fridge. **THIS PROCESS TOOK ME 24 HOURS. SOMETIMES IT MAY TAKE UPTO 36 HOURS** **DON’T KEEP OPENING AND CHECKING. Nature has found a way to try to put absolutely everything into balance - even nutrients. Just as plants have nutrients that are beneficial, they have antinutrients too, Antinutrients are substances found in plants that reduce or block the body's ability to absorb and or fully utilize nutrients. Germinating can easily be done at home, or seeds can be purchased already germinated. . Sprouting reduces the amount of starch and boosts nutritional value. Most notably sprouting boosts levels of carotenoids. Studies reveal carotenoids provide health benefits in decreasing the risk of disease, particularly certain cancers. Seeds from plants containing gluten can be sprouted yielding a generous decrease in gut damaging gluten. . There are many options in sprouting, leafy greens, flowering vegetables, grasses and grains, seeds, nuts and even beans can all be sprouted. If you are interested in sprouting at home, the internet is filled with easy instructions. Want to buy already sprouted, you likely won't need to look as far as a specialty store. Most grocers carry some combination of some of the more popular sprouts you'll find include sunflower, alfalfa, mung bean, adzuki and micro-greens which are simply sprouted seeds from leafy greens. . Serving suggestion? Eat them raw as a meal, side dish or snack.
