2008. The name is approx: Exposures of the sun with color filters. Might have been shot on 4x5 TRANSPARENCY film for weird photographer’s self challenge reasons. In graduate school, I was not in the photo department, so I took an undergrad photo class as an elective. Toward the end of the semester, I brought in some really weird stuff and the professor said something to effect of this is a stretch EVEN FOR YOU. And I said oh? What do you mean? And he said, I remember every word, “You do everything wrong. You can’t not KNOW.” This was one of the best conversations I had the whole 2 years! On the list of WRONG was including the orb of the sun in the frame. OMG I was in heaven, after that I took so many pix with HUNDREDS of direct exposures of the sun on one piece of film. Since this is brighter than what film is usually made for, it involves a lot of math and A LOT of neutral density filters. ( In this case also colors and the 2poimt star filter ) And luck! A curious passerby stuck their face right in my big Sinar P2 I was using on the sidewalk on Morgan Ave in Brooklyn right before this exposure. The pattern is actually me venting annoyance at that dude. I’m rocking the 12 pound camera on the legs of the equally heavy tripod. I think it must be Velvia 50. Miss that stuff. #velvia #sinar Thanks GC!
