To be sure, the dog is loyal.
The world’s most faithful dog. Poor thing has been touched so many times that his nose is turning gold. I’m not sure where this tradition came from as I can’t imagine touching something that’s been touched by millions of people or defacing...erm...denosing...a national treasure. More importantly than germs, if you’re a dog lover, you know, you most certainly don’t go pinging a dog on the snout. It’s sort of amusing to me that the fountain erected in 1872 is more visited than the actual grave site probably 150 yards from it in Greyfriars Kirkyard. The grave site is located near where Bobby, the Skye Terrier spent 14 years guarding his master’s grave, John Gray. Why give the Kirkyard a miss? It’s so thought provoking that J.K. Rowling got character inspiration for the Harry Potter novels by walking through and looking at graves. And if you’re into spirits and I’m not talking the bubbly kind, purportedly, the Kirkyard has a ghost that has slapped and scratched visitors. So I say, keep your fingers in your pocket, walk the extra few feet and visit the Kirkyard. It may be the most interesting and unusual experience you have. For certain, you’ll walk away knowing how loyal dogs are. Thorns may hurt you, men may desert you, sunlight turn to fog; but you’re never friendless ever; if you have a dog.
