🎶Do you listen to music when you run!? 🎶
In the beginning, I was a fan of listening to music when I started running. I’ve always felt that running was 99% mental, and, music (especially something upbeat!) often gave me a boost during my outings. Whenever I laced up my shoes, I always made sure I also had a new playlist to get me through my run. Many of my friends told me that I should ditch it at some point, and, that I would actually enjoy it more. They were right, I was using my music as a crutch to help me run...and, I relied on it too much. Over time, I gradually phased it out my training runs, and, you know what, I started to enjoy it more and more! It allowed me to monitor my breathing better, it was quieter, and, it provided me with 1 of the rare moments of my day where I could completely disconnect.
A big test for me was the @chillyhalf , when I raced music-free for the very first time in my life. I was a bit nervous leading up to the race, however, I really enjoyed the experience. I loved hearing the cheers from the spectators, and, I felt more ‘connected’ to the moment of racing. My performance wasn’t the best that day, however, it had nothing to do with my decision to ditch my music (100% due to poor training & pacing issues!). Any downside!? Yes! I heard....literally ...................
EVERYTHING around me, including, some guy that sounded like he was going to cough up a lung for half the race 🤢, and, a LOUD-talker airing his dirty laundry on the course. 🤦🏻♂️ If you’re someone that relies on music, do yourself a favour, and, try eliminating it during your training runs. It’s not for everyone, but, I think it will take your running to a whole new level!
Good luck & let me know how it goes!! Goodnight! 🌙 (This awesome action shot was captured by @edison2176 )
