I took advantage of some great finds at the clearance section of home depot and planted some rudbekia, echinacea and knock out roses along the front of our farmhouse! After two years of living here, I finally got a gravel walkway from the driveway to the front porch!!! It was just a mulch/weed path before and I love having gravel. It's simple 21a (at least that's what Virginia Dept of transportation calls it), or road gravel mix of stone dust and larger bits.
It made such a difference to the feel of the house. In fact, finally deliveries are being left on our porch instead of at the garage door 😅. Having gravel suited the feel of the farm better than pavers or a more polished walk way. I mean with buckets hanging off fences, wheelbarrows used as water troughs, extra wood stacked on the driveway, rolls of wire fencing material waiting to be installed... We aren't too fancy over here! At 7ft wide and 60+ feet long, it was an economic choice too. Plus I love the #countryvibe of a gravel path, and it inspired me to give a little attention to some well needed landscaping up front. The butterflies were loving it!
