Most African countries possess abundant renewable energy resources, such as solar energy, wind power, geothermal energy, and biomass, as well as the ability to manufacture relatively labor-intensive systems that harness these resources. If there is one place investors should be looking at today, it has to be Africa. There isn’t a better time, as the demand for energy in the region continues to surge. This points toward a vibrant energy market in the medium to long term. The focus should be on harnessing these resources, such that the impact can be felt in better living conditions, enhanced industrialization, job creation and all other positive outcomes.
Population in the region is set to double in the next three decades, demography continues to favour Africa, especially sub-Saharan Africa but this may become a challenge if the right steps are ignored. Through energy innovation, emerging markets stand to gain tremendously, which is good for the global economy.
Some African countries are making significant progress in the development of renewable energy projects: Algeria, Kenya, Ethiopia etc. One thing is certain, more countries in the region would follow suit.
