Hi Paws Pals 🐾 .
Just a friendly reminder that canine cough; aka; kennel cough is still rife around the lower end of the northern beaches right now. .
Whist most cases “appear” to be coming from Graham’s reserve in Balgowlah, it is certainly not contained to this park, with dogs who don’t walk there also contracting this illness. .
Please please PLEASE, if you are a dog owner and frequent any dog park, doggy day care or populated dog area, please educate yourselves on this illness. It is HIGHLY contagious, and whist a young healthy dog may bounce back very quickly, an older or unwell dog may be severely affected, and it can turn into a far more serious illness. .
The recommended time to keep your dog “quarantined” is 7-10 days, this means no trips to the dog park or areas where other dogs frequent, the groomer or doggy day care, and any other area where dogs hang out. .
If your dog is sick; please do us all a favour and stay away, we appreciate that you need or want to exercise your dog but those of us working every day in the parks and surrounds are finding this illness being passed on to others because sick dogs have not been kept away.
It’s like that sick person that turns up to the office and passes their “cold” onto someone who it becomes pneumonia for. Please be considerate for others. .
Some ways to avoid kennel cough; .
❌ stay out of highly populated dog parks or areas where many dogs are present.
❌try not to allow your dog to drink from shared water bowls. Either carry your own or have them drink from a flowing tap.
❌ if your dog is showing signs of being unwell; please keep them home or away from any popular dog areas so as not to keep spreading this illness. .
I hope this information helps clarify the many questions and misconceptions there is about this illness that is currently doing the rounds 💛🐾
