Many know Father Fred Kalaj as the open hearted, forward thinking parish priest who leads a vibrant congregation of 2,000 Albanian Catholics in Metro Detroit. He is the face of the church not just for his Albanian community, but also for congregations in surrounding areas. Father Fred doesn’t stand behind a pulpit during mass, but walks around energetically linking scripture to everyday situations, bringing in insights on society, culture and a range of issues with relevance to us all. In his homilies, gesture and a range of emotions are expression of this dynamic personality – a voice exhorting us to live a life of uncompromising integrity. His choir sounds like something from a Christian rock radio station, and I know from the calendar that he runs a tight ship with a year-long program of community events, which includes a procession and a vigil on November 5 held in honor of the faithful departed known as The Blessed Martyrs of Albania – a group comprised of Albanians, Italians and a German priest who worked as educators and missionaries in the country, only finally to be tortured and executed by the Hoxha regime. He has also named a chapel after them, but says that there are more whose names we do not know. Of the most famous he knows each of their names and stories by heart, like the history of Father Joseph Mihali who was sentenced to a decade of hard labor until one day he collapsed from exhaustion and the officers forced the other workers to bury him alive, ultimately to die from suffocation. Or blessed Ciprian Nika who recited his rosaries aloud at execution and shouted before death, “Long live Christ the King and we forgive our enemies”. Or the story of Maria Tuci, a dedicated teacher with the face of Ingrid Bergman, who was tortured to the point where she was admitted to hospital after refusing to answer her captors’ questions. Her last words were to thank God that she died free. @evenwallshaveears_ 1/2 . . #FatherFredKalaj #RememberThem #AlbanianMartyrs #Martyrs #Catholic #PostThePeople #NeverForget #AlbanianHistory #Religion #CoExist #Muslim #jewish #Survivor #Dictatorship #detroit #RochesterHills #StPaul #ForgiveThyEnemy #priest #reverand

Early morning bike rides to breakfast with my love + taking time to drink our coffee slow. Only a few more weeks of summer, in this place we're lucky to call home. Sometimes doing less, is actually getting so much more in return. . . . . . #lovewhereyoulive #home #lifestyleblog #feedfeed #fitness #newportri #glutenfree #dairyfree #fitfam #foodie #homemade #madefromscratch #wellness #newport #foodporn #healthylifestyle #delish #foodphotography #eeeeeats #wellnessblogger #blogger #mindbodygram #eatingfortheinsta #strongissexy #postthepeople #buzzfeedfood #cleaneating #bagel #breakfast

22 weeks and none of it seems real. The kicks and emotions are high. This season of unknown that lies ahead with court dates, decisions, and transitions. It doesn’t seem fair that it’s all scheduled around the time of this babies birth. You may be born into chaos little Louis, but you’ll be loved too strongly for it to ever touch you. 🌱

I’m still at the point in my business where I accept mostly everything that I get asked to photograph (when availability allows for it, of course). I’ve learned what I like and what I don’t like in these past 3 1/2 years. But OH. MY. GOSH. I’m glad I still say “yes” to new things, because it’s sessions like this one that challenge me creatively & make my heart burst! How could it not when posing these tiny dancers?! 🤩 Photographing these girlies brought back so many of my own near & dear dance memories growing up: The crazy costumes, voting on a new song, nailing a hip hop or tap 8 count after practicing it over and over, the butterflies before an opening number, and best of all - the inside jokes, and sleepovers after recitals with my best friends. Don’t you wish we had a professional photo shoot like this at that age, @c.topp + @amickeyyyy ? 😉 Wishing these cuties a great first week back in school! ✨I see a remake of this best friend shoot in 10 years when they’re seniors!

The rapper @logic has been refreshingly open about his biracial identity though the internet has often mocked him for it. As he’s stated in previous articles people just assume he’s a white guy in the rap game and he has to correct them. He grew up in Maryland in an environment surrounded by those suffering from crack addiction and was raised by his white mother who he said would call him ‘Nigga.’ As someone who comes from a similar socioeconomic background as many of his black peers in hip-hop but physically resembles and is often associated with his white ones, Logic naturally grapples with his own racial identity (and overall life story) through his music. One of the best examples is from the track Everybody: ‘If it was 1717, black daddy, white momma wouldn't change a thing Light skin mothafucka certified as a house nigga Well I'll be God damned, go figure In my blood is the slave and the master It's like the devil playin' spades with the pastor But he was born with the white privilege! Man what the fuck is that? White people told me as a child, as a little boy, playin' with his toys I should be ashamed to be black And some black people look ashamed when I rap Like my great granddaddy didn't take a whip to the back Not accepted by the black or the white I don't give a fuck, praise God, I could see the light Everybody talkin' 'bout race this, race that Wish I could erase that, face facts Everybody people, everybody bleed, everybody need something Everybody love, everybody know, how it go Everybody people, everybody bleed, everybody need something Everybody love, everybody know’

sometimes the world spins a little faster than i can keep track of.. school is starting for the kiddos i nanny, i’m finishing up training at the Women’s Resource Center at PCC and it’s almost time for me to reluctantly register for my french 201 course. on top of early mornings at the hotel and research conducting. life’s hectic but i’m doing so many things i care about. cheers to one more year of student spotify with hulu — unfortunately amazon already revoked my student status which seems pretty elitist to me but whatever — it’s the water we’re all swimming in. saying hello to another year of bs’ing my way through life and maybe becoming an adult afterwards — also in need of a few more summer outdoor excursions if anyone has suggestions/would care to join. HAPPY SATURDAY. #countyoblessings
