yes!!! we need more fat representation!!! leah on the offbeat (book) and this is us (show) address fatphobia really well but all the other things i know depict fat people as either
- food addicts - disgusted with their bodies
- the person everyone makes fun of
- typically single bc of their weight
- having one goal which is to be thin
newsflash: all! fat! people! don't! hate! themselves! coming from a fat person who is actually on her way to losing weight -- i only want to be healthy. the weight doesn't matter to me and it never has, but ill obviously be losing some since im exercising and changing my diet. being fat isn't a disease that has to be cured for all your problems to go away and it doesn't make anyone lack any abilities. not all fat people want to lose weight, so don't talk to them about their bodies assuming that they do. actually, don't talk to them about their bodies period. i hate it when sitcoms are fatphobic but nobody cares (eg: b99, parks and rec, the office). consistently making fun of the ONLY fat person in your entire cast is clearly offensive ffs. people could be fat for different reasons but irrespective of what their story is you have no right to make fun of them. ever.
that being said, i understand that their are obviously fat people who experience body dysmorphia and want to lose weight, and that's completely fine too. i will always support you on whatever journey you want to take. all im saying is, a lot of fat people actually don't mind being fat, and they don't have to be complicit in their own dehumanisation in order to do so. .
