💕🎉 Sunday FUN Day! What did you do for fun today? I’m visiting my hometown for a family reunion and we went on a super-FUN hike with my family. 🌿🌼🌸🍀 My herbalist mom taught us all about the medicinal uses of the wildflowers and plants along the way. She’s an AMAZING woman leading us on a 4-mi hike at age almost-83! 🙌🏼👣🤸‍♀️ Grateful for being part of this active, outdoorsy family. 🙏🏼♥️ ——————————————————————— #sundayfunday #fundaysunday #sundayselfcare #selfcaresunday #funwithfamily #plantwalk #herbalmedicine #herbalwellness #momsrock #herbalistmother #holisticwellness #holistichealthcoach #happywelllifestyle

Last week I spread my Subaru wings and flew up to Mt. Hood for a week long medicinal herb rainforest retreat with the absolutely mind blowing, heart inspiring and life changing herbalist Paul Bergner. I experienced so much wildlife and lush jungle environments. My heart was blown open by the most down to earth, real, centered group of people. I am forever grateful to all the plants that pull us together, heal us, and connect us to our heart as we learn to walk slowly and observe this magical plant paradise we live in. I am bursting with gratitude for the ability to bring myself to these destinations and sit in circle with other wild humans that devote their lives to the plants 🌱 Here’s to the bushwhackers, the waterfall showers, the stinky stachy’s, and all the things that this trip has been. So grateful. 🙏🏽 #rainforestretreat #herbalism #plantwalk #mthood #wild #connection #oldgrowth #knowledge #forestbathing #nature #rebirth #findingmycalling @christinejulich , maya, Cody, thank you for opening up and connecting. Love you all.

We had a great time last night with Jim McDonald @mifolkschool on our midsummer medicine plant walk. I wish I snapped a photo of Jim doing his happy dance after finding black cohosh but the sun had set and only the white spiked flowers were visible. I love when plant people can’t contain their giddiness. Jim is always full of passion and smiles. Great to see you again, Jim! Wild geranium is a super effective astringent you can use internally or externally to tighten up wet, lax tissue. It’s not in flower anymore but this fuschia- edged leaf I found is even prettier. We’re past midsummer (solstice) so that means you start seeing hints of the next season here and there. So there, here’s one + me gushing enthusiasticly over it, as one does. Plant Walk Tuesday 🌿 Starting today, until... indefinitely, I want to invite you on a Plant Walk with me every Tuesday! I am so passionate about medicinal plants and their health benefits but at times the abundance of information can get overwhelming. Plant Walks are meant to be fun, educational, and generate a stronger connection to the Earth 🌱- the complete opposite of overwhelming😉. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Studying herbs every day gives me the opportunity to learn some really cool facts that I think you might also enjoy. SO each week on our Plant Walk, I will highlight some fun facts about a plant that you might not already know about. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today’s plant of the week is the Strawberry 🍓. Yes, you can make medicine out of the Strawberry too🤗! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I would like to preface this Plant Walk series with the understanding that it is impossible for me to summarize the totality of a plant in a single blog post. Every medicinal plant has a variety of uses, approaches, depth, and perspectives. As much as I will try to do my best to give each plant justice, it will of course come with its limitations so please do take this series lightly as it is intended to uplift and empower. Please do NOT use this information as a diagnostic tool or medical advice. If a plant on one of our virtual herb walks resonates with you, I do strongly encourage you to personally dive deeper and explore the magnificence of the specific herb yourself and/or with a trained professional. Thank you for your understanding. To join us on our first Plant Walk, please click on the link in my bio 🍓❤️. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #plantwalkwithLMH #plants #plantwalk #nature #strawberry #medicine #lisamarieholmes #plantwalktuesday

📚 Been waiting to get ahold of this book for a while. “The Practice of Traditional Western Herbalism” by Matthew Wood⁣ ⁣ Cross culturally, traditional systems of medicine agree that the formation of dampness into what is called by some mucus, or phlegm is a major cause of life threatening disease. ⁣ ⁣ Interesting stuff... #Godsmedicine #Herbs #Herbalism #BlackHerbalist #Eattolive #Eattothrive #Letfoodbethymedicine #Veganism #TCM #Ayurveda #Herbalmedicine #Herbalremedies #Fieldnegus #Menshealth #Womenshealth #Plantwalk #Herbwalk #mucus #qi #mucuslessdiet #ArnoldEhret #Drsebi #Amma #trippleburner #threetreasures #westernherbalism

🔎 I haven’t figured out what this plant is yet, but the fragrance was crazy! I rubbed my fingers on the leaves, and placed it to my nose to smell and was SHOCKED‼️😳😮 ! It was so aromatic 🤤, and shortly after my nose started to run.⁣ ⁣ The smell was reminiscent of a very strong tea tree oil..., I’ve never smelled a straight up plant this fragrant besides cannabis.⁣ ⁣ I’m definitely eager to ID this...⁣🌿🔬 ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ #Godsmedicine #Herbs #Herbalism #BlackHerbalist #Eattolive #Eattothrive #Letfoodbethymedicine #Veganism #TCM #Ayurveda #Herbalmedicine #Herbalremedies #Fieldnegus #Menshealth #Womenshealth #Plantwalk #Herbwalk

Plant walk in the hood. And then I’ll be offline for a while. Walking with a friend and learning from all that she knows. Delighted to find that I know a little after the last years of slow learning by doing. . . When We find something that excites us We want to know it all now. My experience goes though that with nature it needs to take it’s time. It triggers our ‘more more more’ ‘now now now’ ‘I want to know it all fast’. But We Need cycles and plenty of them to fully understand How it is all connected and works. It’s life. It is enough. It takes time. It Should take time. Why are We in a hurry? #earthmedicine #plantwalk #plantetur #natureswisdom #naturensvisdom #earthandbody #plantemedicin #plantmedicine #gooffline #udpånatur

I recently embarked on a plant walk hosted by @alpine_botanicals. One of the plants we came across was Horsetail. Believe it or not, this plant has been around for nearly 300 million years and has been known to grow as tall as a palm tree. From the picture, I'm sure you can see how it got it's name. Horsetail can also be called shave grass. It is possibly the most abundant source of silica in the plant family. Silica has been known to support health hair, skin and nails, the immune system and urinary system. Do your research to be sure #horsetail is safe for you. There are some contradictions. #plantwalk #nederland #earthmedicine #ancientplants #silica

Wildcraft Kitchen is based in beautiful Clayton, GA. We love our awesome little town which is perfectly nestled in the Southeast Appalachians below Black Rock Mountain, Georgia’s highest state park. There is so much happening in Downtown Clayton these days with wonderful restaurants and stores opening their doors as the town steadily grows. But can you guess what else is growing in our urban area?! That’s right! Wild medicinal and edible plants are everywhere! Join us for an urban plant walk on July 13th hosted by @botanologos and learn to recognize the plants that thrive at the edges of our urban landscape. While we can’t safely harvest plants from this landscape, this is a great way to learn about lots of useful plants, both native and invasive, that live nearby. Cat walk • Plant walk Edie loves garden strolls, even better after a heavy rain. She got her sweet little white paws soaked and muddy for the first time since she was five months old! She checked the lemon basil coming up, the trailing lantana I just planted, assisted as I harvested seeds, and posed by the baby vitex tree. Pepe is her manager and he keeps her in line while traveling out of doors (if he were human he’d be a micromanager or helicopter parent). 🍃🐾🍃 #plantwalk #catwalk #muddypaws #gardenpals #urbangarden #backyardgarden #texasnativeplants #catsofinstagram #gardencat #formerferal #tnr

Its beauty is deceiving. ☠️☠️☠️ — Meet Hemlock, Conium maculatum. The biggest question- how to identify this plant to avoid having your kiddo or pet accidentally ingest?! Read on for the details. — Hemlock has fern like, umbrella leaves. 🌿 Its stems have a giveaway purple/red blotchiness to them (swipe right 👉🏻 to last photo). 🌿 Flowers (in Spring) are tiny & white, arranged in clusters. 🌿 — Hemlock is in the same family as wild carrot & other edible plants. If in doubt about a plant avoid it! Poison hemlock is frequently found growing amongst other weeds, many times near a water source. It can grow up to 8 feet tall. Any part of the plant ingested is fatal! — #urbanplants #hemlock #herbalist #materiamedica #creekside #danger #plantwalk #denvercolorado #summerday #plantidentification #themoreyouknow #registerednurse #medicinalplants #socrates #weeds

My students ( @the_sassafras_school ) and I saw this butterfly milkweed on our trip to @mountaingardens yesterday. It is one of my very faves. I'm not sure what makes it so tantalizing, the color? I saw a "You Know You're an Herbalist When..." meme going around a couple years ago and one of the qualifiers was, "You stop the car when you see butterfly milkweed on the side of the road." 😂 So totally right on for this Herbalist! Another name for Asclepias tuberosa is Pleurisy Root because it was traditionally utilized for pleurisy, an inflammation of the lungs. Is it not prolific, so grow your own for your health and the butterflys' 🧡 #botanizing #botany #plantwalk #plantID #plants #nc #828isgreat #herbs #herbalism

“An herbalist is one who lives at the edge of the world of people and the world of plants. We consider ourselves stewards of the medicinal plants, of the natural world, and of the Earth herself. Herbalists connect people with plants by making medicines to help them heal and by training those who are drawn to learn this sacred craft. It is our sacred joy and honor to do the work we do. The path of the herbalist is, ultimately, a sacred journey.“ -Ginger Webb There are still a handful of tickets left for our Wimberley Medicinal Plant Walk with @gingerwebbherbalist THIS Friday morning. These beauty filled relatives growing right along side of each other demonstrating the act of co creation 🙏🏼 We have Castilleja indivisa (Texas Indian Paintbrush) and Plantago rhodosperma (Red seed Plantain) both have traditionally been used medicinally by those who have come before us and are still in use today! Indian paintbrush is one of those that will definitely catch your eye. The flowers are edible but should be eaten in moderation due to the fact that it absorbs and stores selenium (selenium being toxic in large amounts) in its tissue from the soil it grows in making it possibly toxic if the roots or green parts are consumed. Indian paintbrush has been used to make a hair oil that keeps the hair looking healthy 🙏🏼 Red seed plantain is Texas version of the plantain, even though the leaves are way smaller than some of its cousins it makes up for it with its medicinal effect! Plantain leaf makes a effective wound healing herb in all stages of wound healing. The root also has many uses, such as it being very effective for Mucosal support and healing. There is so much that this relative has to offer that one could literally write and a short chapter just on its uses🙏🏼 Plantago spp. is one of those herbs that should be in your materia medica if it isn't already🙏🏼❤️🌎🌌🌱 #herbs #sacredmedicine #medicinalherbs #wildcraft #plantwalk #botanicalmedicinemaking #apothecary #clinicalherbalism #herbalism #botany #love #beauty #materiamedica #ahomitakuyeoyasin

That plate of goodness with a cup of chilled cedar tea on the side... 😌☕️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Better yet, I am so happy to see racialized settlers and guests creating spaces to explore their relationships with the land and Indigenous peoples. @philipcote1 led today’s learning circle with a teaching of smudging with sweet grass - the braid is significant to our being, as the three strands represent our past, present and future. We also showed respect for tobacco with our prayers, as it is one of the four sacred medicines, and finished off the day with a plant walk. You won’t believe how many medicinal plants are right in the heart of #mississauga !🌿 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Thank you to @kwentongbayan and @kapwacollective for putting together a fantastic Sunday afternoon, and @titaflips and @nishdishmarketeria , for the delish lunch (and dinner leftovers).
