Went antiquing with @it_mmmadi at this cool shop in downtown Gardiner (Cobalt Moon Antiques, I believe). Sorry to Madi because she had to listen to me be all jittery and yelp-y in excitement of antiquing. (Last two slides I have info about the items I bought). I loved the history! There were lots of old photographs of unnamed people, postcards with notes written to family, friends, and lovers, old tea sets and depression glass, and so many other interesting things. The owner told us about the glass bottles and how to identify them, and about what the bottles might’ve been used for. Next time I go I really want to buy an old book I saw (original copies from circa 1820!) and maybe some old depression glass—apparently the green depression glass is made from Uranium, which glows under a black light. I also liked the old medicine bottles and ink cartridges (nothing says history like giving somebody cough medicine with cocaine to cure their alcohol/heroin addiction). He told me about tonics, too—there was a glass bottle he had with the label, and apparently it was some sort of “meat tonic” that was “medicine” made out of meat, and people bought it to make them healthier. Seriously gave me RDR2 vibes! Even older than what I bought were items from the civil war era, and older than that I was shown a bottle from the late eighteenth/early nineteenth century, which would’ve had alcohol and likely a label with something cool like a picture of George Washington. Anyway—really amazing place! Again, info about the items are on the last two slides of photos.
