I love food and I hate being disappointed by food. Take a guess in the comment box how much this meal costs?
Dining out all the time gives me a really good idea of what it's like in the food scene and any trend and changes. I'm giving a unbiased review so nobody falls into the same trap or have for this mediocre plate of food.
Actually what you see in the picture shouldn't be called a meal, it's more a plate of 3 sides with some smeared-on sauce (soooo 2009). I didn't order eggs, mushrooms & potato/hash brown to be put on a plate, I ordered a main dish from the menu.
For most of us hardworking tax payers, this food actually costs a bomb. I know that brunch is expensive in general but for the price, the portion size is stingy.
The menu said spinach, any toddler who can count to 3 will know how many spinach leaves are on this plate.
Adding a little slice of toast would make this dish more substantial and complete. Extremely disappointed. ☹️ Worst of all was the 10% service charge. Last I check, menu prices is net - this is how we do it in Melbourne. I see that as a sneaky way of charging diners more at the end - well, South Melbourne-goers seem to like the overpricing concept though.
This is absolutely disgraceful. Fair to say, St. Ali is one of the most overrated brunch places in South Melbourne, but then again, so is everything in South Melbourne, it's just so dated, probably only self-proclaimed hipster (soooo 2015) like to rave about it. .
