🌸 Luteal Phase 🌸 The luteal phase begins directly after ovulation and leads up to the beginning of our next menstruation. Progress Update!!!!!! -I am currently at my lowest weight again 237lbs. Last time I weighted that was almost a year ago. - Even as a junior in high school when I made it to sectionals in wrestling I was 285. -I physically feel much better at this weight than I did in high school. I’m better able to move and much more flexible. -Going to the gym and losing weight was where I felt I had succeeded for myself for the first time. Yesterday I gave a presentation on weight stigma and size diversity to one of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics DPGs. I had the privilege of using my voice to tell some of the many stories that have been shared with me form individuals who face stigmatization and oppression on a daily basis. I had the opportunity to expose some of the most problematic ways that we (as nutrition/health care professionals) don’t make people feel safe and welcome in our offices. I discussed weight bias, problematic language and alternatives that are less harmful, ways we communicate without saying anything at all (ex: having small chairs with arms in our office that don’t work for all body sizes), and how to give ourselves compassion as we are learning to do better (leave the perfectionism behind) as allies. . “Many people are so afraid of having to be weighed and tired of receiving unsolicited weight loss lectures and judgement about their ‘health’, that they don’t go to the doctor- they don’t get check ups or screenings, they don’t ask for help when they are sick or have a complicated relationship with food, they shy away from mental health therapy, they don’t reach out when they are in pain- but they do carry a ton of shame instead. Shame doesn’t make people more well.” . Another very important topic we covered was the fact that pathologizing higher weight bodies is harmful and unethical. Fat is not unhealthy. Just like thin doesn’t equal healthy. Fat and thin, larger or smaller…these are descriptors and if a practitioner is using them to diagnose, not only is this stigmatizing (which imposes psychological and social harm), but is an incompetent medical/nutritional/therapeutic practice. . There were many really great questions post presentation and a ton of positive feedback, which makes me extremely excited to see people wanting to learn and unlearn! Some days are a complete high in the work that we do, and some days are really hard. Yesterday was a really good day. Together we can do better.

How many of you perform the plank? If you don’t, then I believe you should start (unless of course a professional such as a physio has advised you not too). The plank is a great exercise for testing and developing core strength for both adults and children, and it can be performed anywhere. To perform the plank properly: - lay down on your front with your elbows tucked underneath your shoulders. - Then with your hands facing each other in front of you, squeeze your arms against your armpit (imagine you have a £50 note tucked under your armpit and someone is trying to take it from you). - Then tense your muscles in your legs and bum, and lift your belly button off of the floor (imagine the floor is lava under your belly). - Then keeping that position, lift your bum off of the floor making a straight line with your body. - Your forearms and toes should be all that remains on the floor. There you have the plank. To monitor your core strength progression, get somebody to time you whilst you hold the plank for as long as possible, but don’t let them tell you the time until you have completed your plank. To see if you are improving, measure this every 4-6 weeks, if you last longer you have improved. You should not feel any pain in your back if performed correctly. BURRO DI MANDORLE HOMEMADE ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ingredienti: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -200gr mandorle (io ho usato quelle senza “pellicina” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ PROCEDIMENTO: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ -mettere le mandorle nel mixer e azionare in modo da tritare le mandorle spegnendo l’apparecchio ogni due minuti per non farlo surriscaldare e per amalgamare il composto che tenderà ad appoggiarsi alle pareti. In tutto serviranno circa 10-15 minuti; dopo i primi 5 minuti le mandorle saranno tritate finemente e cominceranno a rilasciare l’olio. Il composto inizierà a scaldarsi trasformandosi lentamente in burro. Da questo momento non spegnete più l’apparecchio. Quando sarà morbido potrete aggiungere, se volete, un pizzico di sale oppure un po’ di vaniglia e cannella. Movement prep is so important - before you begin your workout you want to make sure the muscle groups you’ll be working are activated and warm, this not only prevents injury but also means they will work a little harder and more effectively throughout your workout. I was doing a full body workout after this movement prep (I had already done some mobility to loosen up prior to this). 1. 10 x Banded squats with bad around my knees, the focus is to push your knees out as you squat to target your gluteus medius hip stabilisers. When you stand you posteriorly tilt your pelvis ie exaggeratedly tuck your hips and squeeze your gluteus maximus. 2. 10 x “Y”s with arms, make sure to set the shoulders down so you feel your lower trapezius activate. Try not to use momentum to swing your arms up, it should be controlled and targeted at all times. Check your form in the mirror if you need. 3. Banded plank variation. Place band around ankles, walk your hands into a high planks position, hips tucked in. Without shifting hips tap your right foot out to the side twice, then your left foot. This will fire up the shoulders, chest, triceps, core and glutes with a heavy focus on pelvic stability. They may end up increasing body fat rather than building muscle. ⁣ ⁣ ❌𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐟 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐰? ⁣ If you meet your protein requirements but not meet your energy requirements, then it means that the carbohydrate or fat intakes are too low. A little meatless Monday-spo on a Tuesday that feels like a Monday for ya...⁣ ⁣ Most of my primarily #plantbased (though technically I’m ovo) meals look like this 🍽👆🏼⁣ ⁣ First a foremost, @braggsacvhealth ACV and @biohmhealth probiotic greens every damn day👊🏻⁣ ⁣ Protein: 20-30g per meal (depending) from beans, legume based pasta, edamame, @beyondmeat pea protein “not meat”, tempeh and tofu. ⁣ ⁣ Carbs: In the am, before and after my workout. These pair well with the protein sources listed above and range from root vegetables like butternut squash and sweet potatoes, to oats and rice cakes. ⁣ *I like rice cakes after my workout because they’re easy to digest and 🚘transport that protein🍙🍚 ⁣ ⁣ Veggies: “Whenever. Wherever. We’re meant to be together🥒.”⁣ ⁣ Fats: It’s easy to get fat from these protein sources, but when I need more I throw avocado on, oh ya know, ANYTHING, or drizzle on some nut buttah if someone hides it from me afterwards😊⁣ ⁣ Supps: My favorite and the most important ones I never skip are turmeric (3x daily) and @curednutrition CBD oil (2x daily).
