Let’s talk about these eyes. 👀
They are black. Maybe in DIRECT SUNLIGHT, they turn a hint of brown. But they are - in 99.9% of all other lighting - black.
I’m a white girl with black eyes.
They are my most unique physical feature, and I love them.
But by the Gods, makeup is sometimes so hard. I used to just forget about eyeshadow because I’d never find anything to match my eyes.
“Tips for brown eyes! Use golds and blues and purples and greens to accent your natural brown highlights.”
BULLSHIT. Blue looks like absolute trash on me. Purple is hit-or-miss. And gold? It’s fine... doesn’t “pull out any accents of color” in my eyes. And green? Idk about green. I usually avoid that color.
Women with my color eyes are my black and brown friends, those with deeper skin tones than my light-medium-cool-undertone ass. Purples look SPLENDID on them. The contrast is beautiful. Blue? Yes! Greens? Fuck ya, rock it. Gold? Hell ya, accent that lovely brown skin.
Why do I even talk about this? JESACHI WHAT IS THE POINT?
The point boils down to comparison, as most things on social media do. I have categorically “brown eyes” but when I try looks that are supposed to compliment “brown eyes”, it doesn’t work. I look like garbage. I feel like garbage.
The point is - you gotta do you. No one knows you like you know you. Don’t try to be other people, what works for them might not work for you. No one talks about black eyes on white girls, so I had to get elbows-deep in figuring out what works for me. Pinks, reds, neutrals, sometimes mauve, a hint of gold or bronze here and there. Those colors shouldn’t “work” on brown eyes. Those are for green eyes and gray eyes and blue eyes.
And yet, it works.
Do you, friends. No one can do “you” quite like you do.
Peace, love, kamsahamnida - Jesachi
