Having goals is important. Having REALISTIC goals is even more important. This month was full of somewhat unrealistic goals that I managed to achieve, but in doing so burned me out. I decided to finish the third draft of #WIP and I did it! But now I’ve barely written anything since... I also completed a #12hour #writeathon successfully but I burned out quickly. I wanted to read three books from my TBR but I’ve only read two. Setting up attainable goals is important to actually reaching them. Consider what you have to do that month; exams? Assessments? Maybe you’re going on a holiday/vacation, or you have to work extra shifts. Take them into consideration when planning your next month. For me, June has little to no stresses. So I’m planning my days accordingly! Thank goodness classes are over! 😅 I want to revise #draft3 and edit with the help of my #CPs plus read over #draft2 of my co-written project and #draft1 of my #nanowrimo2018 novel! There are going to be at least two write-a-thons in there. Seems a bit hectic now, but I’ll post an updated plan in the days to come! #writerscommunity #savethecat #writersofig #writersofinstagram #writerslife #write #writer #writing #amwriting #outliningyournovel #outline #outlining #draft #drafting #revision

The benefit to having a friend who makes wonderful bookish goodies? I WANT THEM ALL... wait is that a benefit? 😅 Side note: I’m pretty sure if I burned these together it would smell like Manu’s bedroom. If you find yourself having trouble seeing your characters, whether major or minor, as full people in their own right, ask yourself: What’s the character’s internal motivation; what does he really want? How might you locate a character’s internal motivation and conflict if these seem to be absent? What peculiar traits—of appearance, personality, behavior, mannerisms, speech—might you highlight about the character to make him seem fuller? Are you playing both with and against type? How is the heart of the character, the motivation, evident in a work you admire?

I’m still alive over here! Barely... 😅 I spent two weeks busting my butt for the Gaithersburg Book Festival and it was totally worth it! Now I’m back to the regular routine of querying, and reviewing Hunt... which means I super needed this reminder today. #nanowrimo #nanowrimo2018 #nanowrimoprep #nanowrimoeve #nanowrimonovel #writersofinstagram #writingcommunity #writerscommunity #writer #writers_den_ #writerslife #writers #writersofig #writersofinsta #writersoninstagram #nanothatwrimo #steampunk #steampunkstyle #steampunknovel #steampunkfairytale #lgbtcharacters #lgbtcharacter #amwriting #amwritingfantasy #amwritingfiction

Supporting characters better our understanding of the main character and the circumstances she finds herself in, whether long-term (the overall quest) or short-term (in a particular moment or scene). And if your supporting characters aren’t working toward an understanding of the main character or situation in some way, you should question what they’re really doing there, hogging time and space in your book.

"I sat quietly, trying to understand what exactly he was trying to tell me and to comprehend why anyone would want to sacrifice the very essence of him or herself to fit into the crowd. It tugged at my heart strings. found a handful of old vintage photos that show anarchists from France. I really want to write about this group of men who were labelled as "anarchists." As you may have noticed, this account has a name change! It's now called @laurendoesstuff123. This is because I do a lot of things, and I may be able to keep my posting going if I reflect that in my public Instagram. I don't always have time for writing, and I applaud those who do! That being said, I might take a break from writing for a little while and do some art or some singing if people want to see that.⠀ Comment below suggestions! Keeping a writing account up was really hard when I couldn't really post much because of lack of ideas 🙃

#throwbackthursday to when I was at my happiest writing my #nanowrimo2018 #novel ! I miss #writing for fun! I have put so much pressure on myself trying to make a decision in regards to what I want to do about #publication. Maybe it’s fear of failure or fear of success but whatever it is, I’m nervous about putting myself out there again! Does anyone else ever feel this way? MOTHER: a verb Thinking about all types of mothers today. Mine, who is perfect. Others, who are not. Those, who are waiting, hoping, grieving. Let’s reflect on MOTHERING today. The act of supporting, guiding, and loving. Maybe you mother your nieces and nephews. Maybe you mother your friends. Maybe you mother your students. Let’s not subtract from the “classic” mothers. Instead, let’s expand the definition. To those who mother, thank you. Share this in honor of those who mother you & those whom you mother.

There’s a right way and a wrong way to research your next protagonist (or role). Don’t research anything before you attend this 45-minute training. . Why? 👀 . Thank you to everyone for commenting and reading my #scifi #flashfiction story yesterday. It was so much fun to hear what everyone noticed and what they liked about the story. To boast, the ending was pretty epic and seems to be everyone's favorite part. Mine too. Thank you for all the love and encouragement. It meant so much to me. . If you missed your chance to read #SINSOFFIREANDMETAL , only  @gohavok  members can read it now but it is very easy to become one. They have two plans that you can purchase - 1) for $1.99 you will be given 90 days to access all the stories previously published and currently being published by Havok. 2) If you really love short stories, for $4.99 you will be given a full year to access Havok #shortstories. That's cheaper than subscribing to a magazine or buying a book. And not only can you read them whenever you want as a member, but you can also rank them and be qualified for reader prizes. How fun is that?! . So, what is next for me? The next thing that I hope you get to read by me is a physical book. I am working hard to make that so. I'm currently editing my #NaNoWriMo2018 story (a.k.a. project: BEAR) into a complete manuscript. Each month I edit 2-3 chapters and give them to my Alpha readers. My goal is by the end of this year to have project: BEAR completed so that by 2020 I can look for an editor, beta readers, and start pursuing publication. The ultimate goal is to be a 2020 debut novelist. Send all the coffee and prayers. #amwriting #2020debutauthor #writersofinstagram #authorsofinstagram

How cool is my avatar on @4thewords I love dressing her up as I get new wardrobe rewards. I am currently wearing the guardian rags, Nabia’s expedition tattoos and the Ardi eyes from the current #campnanowrimo event just past in April; love earrings and antlers from the Valentines week event; the frost hair from the winter wonderland event over New Years; and the carnival feathers, carnival trio and carnival necklace from the #nanowrimo2018 event. But there is so much to chose from! I also have a baby xin pet on my shoulder for company too! This game is amazing for writers as it is fun, interactive and gives plenty of motivation and reason to write daily plus the daily goal is not even half of the #nanowrimo goal at only 444 words! I definitely recommend it! I haven’t written so much so frequently in a very long time! #writersofinstagram #writer #writestagram #writerscommunity #writinglife #writingcommunity #writingtools

Day 2 #campnanoaftermath - NaNo vs NaNo! I was unsuccessful at #nanowrimo for many, many, MANY years until this past November for #nanowrimo2018 when I completed "Flowers for Mia" the sequel to "A Love Song for Mia" in which I wrote 50,062 words in ten days. Insanity. This never would have happened had it not been for the romance writing competition held by @whisperpublishing that led to me write "A Love Song for Mia." I got stuck on my first attempt working on "The Silence Between Us" and I didn't think I was going to finish anything. Yet somehow after writing the short story for the competition I felt so inspired to continue with those characters. For #campnanowrimo2019 , I wrote "Patterns of Iridescence" but I didn't make it to 50K like I had hoped. Still, I finished with a #novella size version of the story and will be editing it over the next month. And finally for #nanowrimo2019 , I will be writing about the 1960s and Vietnam. At least I know for this upcoming NaNo I will have plenty of research to do and I will also outline the entire #novel... which I did not do for either of my previous stories. And I certainly won't wait until the last ten days of the month to write it! ;) #authorsofinstagram #writersofinstagram #amwriting #writingcommunity #writerscommunity #nanowrimo

Day 2 of #campnanoaftermath is How does this Nano compare to another Nano you have done? . This is the first #CampNaNoWriMo I have done but I have also done #NaNoWriMo and Camp Nano was definitely easier. The ability to choose your own word count goal was very nice. 50k is a lot of words, so going from 50k pressure in November to 10k pressure in April was a welcome change. I think for July #CampNaNoWriMo I will be upping the word count to 20k. I almost did 20k in my first NaNo so I think that might be a possibility for me. Also, depending on what project I am working on, depends on what my word count will be. I am a little under 40k left on my WIP now, so I might end up getting the last 20k done on that book in July, but we still have a month and half before then, so maybe I can get some more words done? If I do end up finishing Colt in Camp Nano, I will probably start the second book just to make the word count goal and get the second book going already. It's better to have something else to focus on when you are in the query trenches! . . . #campnanoaftermath #campnanowrimo2019 #nanowrimo2018 #april #july #november #10k #20k #50k #querytrenches #amqueryingsoon #amwriting #booksofinstagram #books #book1 #Colt #Summer #thecowboysseries #cowboys #adultromance #lovelovelove

I cannot thank everyone enough for the overwhelming support and incredible feedback that I’ve received over the past couple of months for “A Love Song for Mia” which is featured along with five other short stories in the “Whispers of the Heart” anthology by @whisperpublishing. It is available now on Amazon Kindle! Instead of sharing an excerpt this time, I thought it would be fun to let you in on a few fun facts (and secrets) about the story! 1.) The story was originally going to take place in beautiful Leeds, UK but given that I’ve never been there, I decided to switch it to the incredible city of Philadelphia- the place I call home. 2.) I was deadset on having a British lead character because I love the UK! 3.) Mia’s real name is Maria Callahan, though I don’t mention it in the short story… it’s mentioned in the follow-up novel. 4.) OH! Did I say follow-up novel? Don’t get too excited. It’s awful and terrible and everything in between, but it did help me finish #nanowrimo2018 with 50,062 words and gave me my first ever NaNo win! 5.) “A Love Song for Mia” was the first story that I ever submitted to a publisher. 6.) Mia worked in a flower shop because it has always been one of my dream jobs. 7.) My character inspirations for Oliver and Andrew will ALWAYS remain a secret! ;) 8.) I visited the place where Mia and Amelia go in the beginning of the story. It’s known as the “Christmas Village.” 9.) The beginning of the story was completely different from when I first wrote it in November 2018. I hated the beginning so much and one night at two in the morning when I didn’t know what to write to make the story better, I decided on the famous words that Amelia says to Mia. “Mia, start from the beginning…” because that’s exactly where I needed to begin. 10.) I had two other titles before finally settling on “A Love Song for Mia.” 11.) I always wanted to name a character Oliver. He is my favorite character in the story and quite possibly my all-time favorite character that I’ve ever written. There you have it! Thanks once again to everyone for your kind words and I’m so glad you enjoyed the story! #bookstagram #amreading #ebook #amazon #uk #authorsofinstagram

#ipreview via @preview.app

Day 115 #365photos2019 It was this horoscope a week ago that pushed me to buckle down and finally pull together a real shell/relatively cohesive rough first draft of my #Nanowrimo2018 project. Now, time to share with a few for comments 😬
