I hoed down a patch of weeds so that I could sheet mulch it this weekend. Should’ve been easy until I couldn’t remove a piece of concrete. I didn’t know how deep it was and didn’t really know what to do because it would not budge 🤬 I decided to wet the soil and use a piece of plywood as a jack. Eventually I was able to wiggle, lift, and roll it out. The thing weighs like 40 lbs 😓 Overall I am a satisfied #gardenheaux 😁

I’m normally strictly DIY in the garden, but this week I splurged in having the whole place mulched and I’m so excited, you’d think I won the lottery. Alchemilla just cut all the way back thanks to the advice of @kathrinsgarten #gardenhelp #mulch #winningthewaronweeds

Progress continues on the large farm building project - plans and quotes are in, decision time tomorrow... In the interim, some time was found to start work on another project. The county road side of the berm has been annoying us for some time, as it looks more than a little neglected - and neglect is the last thing we want anyone to think of when they look at Old Marston Farm! So, we have kicked off a cleanup project, which will proceed in fits and starts in between other work, but will eventually result in a beautified berm, ditch and verge, and a new split rail fence to replace the old and mostly rusted out barbed wire fence. Of course, we reviewed our plans with the county first, who were only too happy to let us proceed with the improved look. In this photo, you’re looking at a small stand of aspens at one end of our frontage that were horribly tangled and with dead branches, stunted saplings and some standing dead trees. The trees were cleaned up and thinned out, the surrounding dirt leveled, and a decade’s worth of debris removed. The slash from the aspen cleanup was chipped on site using the Vermeer wood chipper, and reapplied as mulch. Guest appearances here from the John Deere 60G excavator, and the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Hard Rock. I apologize for not getting a ‘before’ shot in to illustrate the transformation, but sadly I completely forgot to do so. #oldmarstonfarm #omf #marston #montana #farm #farmer #farming #farmlife #construction #project #berm #countyroad #beautification #neglected #aspens #thinning #cleanup #woodchipper #vermeer #mulch #excavator #johndeere #jeep #wrangler #rubicon #hardrock #montanalife #montanaliving #montana #rhyme

Just a little mulch can make it a long way. This dark brown mulch helps the colors of the plants stand out. #MULCH

Pretty perfect. I haven’t had a ton to do out here the past couple days, things are planted and doing their thing without much help needed from me. Which makes me happy and also a little... I don’t know, I wish there was more to do... guess it’s time to start more seeds!

Fun cleanup job. I don’t usually enjoy working with red mulch but this job turned out awesome! Trimmed back the tree and bushes as well. #landscaping #mulch #outdoors

23rd cycle ✨ @MOFOseeds TOBC1 ✨ This particular container started a long time ago with soil and amendments etc that I wouldn’t touch today, and low mineral content. But that’s OK because it doesn’t matter what you start with, through simple principals of Soil Building you can create the greatest soil money can’t buy. The bargaining agent is time. For example - if you’re following my “Terraced Straw Bale Garden Bed” project, it directly stems from me getting tired of working against a poor farming locale that has already taken several years to get to a point it would still take 10 more years to get the soil to a truly productive level. I’m tired of waiting (LMAO!). Now in another example, perhaps your soil is rich but just needs to get broken up and aerated. A season or two with heavy cover crops, mulching and boom you’re ready to rock n roll with #NoTill from the get go. Perhaps you have land that is virtually pure sand. You have great oxygen penetration but no humus, your soil can’t hold water or life. This might take several seasons of cover crop and mulch to get there. Do you want to wait 5-8 years? Maybe you do and you enjoy the challenge and watching the progress and how the soil changes over time - great! Or perhaps you have a greater need to grow nutrient rich food and medicine ASAP, in that case you’d want to invest in loads of compost and a heavy cover crop for a season - you’re ready to go! Do you understand my point? Time vs investment vs intent is your considerations. In the case of what’s pictured here, this was my learning experience, I thought I had bomb dot com soil but in research, observable results and most importantly hands on experience I was able to bring the soil up to par. What did it come down to? #Mulch #CoverCrop #Worms #Humus #Minerals. Whatever you don’t start with, incorporate as time, investment and intent allows. Does that make sense? #HolisticObservation #NoTillGardening #NaturalFarming

I’m starting to like these powered wheelbarrows more and more. They open doors to do jobs for contractors that might not be able to afford a loader. This wheelbarrow will drive itself up a ramp fully loaded . Fill it with dirt and drive it up into your pickup. There’s no way your doing that all day long without power assist. The battery will run continually for 2 hours. But if you only use the power when you need it you can get through a full day. I’m already finding that I can do more jobs on tighter sites thanks to these units. I have 3 of them and they are torquey units. I’m starting to do more testing with these but You can find them at @electricpaw #options #contractor #powerhouse #construction #jobsite #landscaper #landscaping #lawncare #mulch #tools #toughstuff #wheelbarrow #toolsofthetrade #constructionlife

So my job is complete here (except regular lawn mowing until property is sold) Wish I had more time to try and get these lawns in better shape and not in winter but it is what it is. Just had to wait for the painter to paint the outside wall before I could mulch as I want it as fresh as possible without paint on it and walked all over. Hedges trimmed ✔ Lawns mowed fertilised ✔ Gardens mulched ✔ Paths blown ✔ Grass and plants watered ✔ Good luck @bellepropertyhuntershill With the sale. . . . . . #belleproperty #forsale #house #ryde #northryde #gladesville #realestate #sydneyaustralia #mulch #yardwork #clean #grass #hedge #hedgetrimming #garden #gardening #jardin #garten #landscaping #stihl #flowers #agent #lawnmowing #work #fridays #r4r #photo #cottage #design #recent4recent
