I had a glorious weekend of supporting 32 other talented yoga teachers and body workers studying for their #sportsyoga teacher qualification with Sarah Ramsden and @yogaalliance. In the past 3 months I've been losing and gaining heaps of friendships, some I thought would last forever and some I never thought would happen. Most of the friends I've lost has just been because we stopped talking over time and the rest from distance but even though you have lost a person you can still keep the memories and sometimes that's where friendships can be gained again. from wanting more of the good times and fun but even after regaining that friendship back it will still more than likely drift away. MONDAY MOTIVATION - The common misconception is that you ALWAYS need to eat less to decrease body fat or reduce weight. Although the problem with the majority of us is that we are inconsistent, we under-eat during our working week, but then the weekend hits and we binge; over consuming all the high sugar, high fat, less nutrient dense foods, that push us way over our calorie needs. This then means that we gain fat/weight, or that we just don’t see progress. - If you want to see results then consistency, being accountable and fuelling yourself with nutrient rich foods is key. For example, Katie has been working with Seema over a number of weeks leading up to her most recent weightlifting competition. Due to the weight classes recently going up this meant that Seema had to put on up to 2kg of functional weight. - Prior to working with Katie Seema was sometimes consuming no more than 1,200kcals per day. This was having quite a detrimental effect on her performance and energy levels. Which is the opposite of what you want in a strength sport, and also just to function optimally in daily life. - Over a number of weeks Katie & Seema worked together to increase her calories, and gradually over time her weight started to rise. In addition her energy levels improved dramatically, and in the build up to the comp she PB‘ed her lifts a number of times (which had been stagnant for a couple of years prior to this). This led to her having a much more positive and confident mindset going into her competition. - Although Seema gained weight as planned, at her last nutrition consult she had also managed to decrease her body fat by 2%, and added 2.7kg of muscle to her frame! As a result she performed excellently in her competition and won the gold medal in her category! - It’s so important to remember that these results were achieved through Seema’s hard work and commitment to her nutrition; through increasing the amount she was eating, and NOT decreasing. - If you’re struggling to see progress and need help with your nutrition then remember that with all semi private and 1-2-1 PT session you get your nutrition taken care of for free. For anyone else then there is just a small fee

I thought the 30/30 one arm would be the end for me but just like learning to the initial 60 second 2 arm, it ended up just being the beginning. The itch to continue to progress is just too great; to see how far I can push something even as trivial as handbalancing. I can’t give you a good reason why to push handstanding to such a level other than that it’s a good crack. Most would say (and I would partially agree) it’s served it’s purpose and now it’s time to invest energy in developing completely different movement variety/complexities. Going off that though I would have to completely ignore this insatiable itch and where do you draw the line for personal enjoyment/satisfaction and well rounded training? (I’m sure everyone has their 2 cents on that and everyone is correct in their own way) The progressional chain of handstanding being a similar concept to where I spent 20 years of my life. Skateboarding, learn one trick, then the next, then add a variation to a previous trick and then continue. It ends up been with a bottomless pit of possibilities and this concept of progression has been with me for the large majority of my life Will I get bored of it one day? Probably but for now watch me (and listen if you can be fucked) suffer while learning to try put a 90 degree lateral bend in my spine (that I may mention was locked 5 years ago) while working on flag variations. And thus we take another step deeper down the #specialistscum rabbit’s hole. Word to @miketyson I feel you, my man

This is where I end every single session now, at the squat rack. 🏋️🏻‍♂️ . I decided it was time to admit single leg squats and other bodyweight exercises would never take me where I want. . My goal is not to be as good as I can with a strict calisthenics training, my goal is to be as strong and mobile as possible, and for this I need to squat heavy weights. . That said, single leg squats are very important for mobility and joint preparation, which in turn allow for greater strength. To me it is a prerequisite and some argue that nobody should add weight to their squat before they can do a pistol squat with correct form and full range of motion. So this needs to be mentioned too. As with everything else, balance is key and the best option is usually a mix of both. . Now mark my words, 2019 will be the year my lower body catches up with my upper body to make me stronger than I've ever been. 💪🏼

Celebrating 1 year since I did my first free handstand!! 🥳🎉🎊 It’s been a year filled with lots of hard work, lots of handstand stamina, building it up to 5 sets of 1 min’ handstand, a goal I’ve just recently achieved. I still have a lot of work to do. My current goals being mostly working on tuck jumps into handstand, which my body finds very hard to do for some reason, as well as press up into handstand, which I guess is hard for almost everyone. Also my handstand line is still far from perfect, and maybe it never will be that perfect straight line, but I keep working on opening up my shoulders and keeping my ribs closed and all that good stuff. This pic was taken last July when I was visiting Paris, and as you can see, my line is not perfect (actually I found out that the pont (bridge) is a little curved, so the pavement wasn’t really straight + being nervous about catching my handstand during a photoshoot made it harder, but I did my best). Today I got back into doing outdoor workouts. 🤸🏻‍♀️ It’s still cool enough that it’s not terribly uncomfortable. . . And the park had others running or walking, 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♂️so I was in good company. . *REMOVE ALL EGO* Elevated Freestanding handstand push ups have been in my last 2 blocks of training. I am able to do them... HOWEVER not consistently for 3+ reps with good technique... Yet again I have let my ego get the better of me and stubbornly attempted to train at a level that would have required my 100% best effort each time to complete the prescribed reps/sets with proper technique. So for me that means regressing to wall assisted handstand push-ups to build my volume and consistency again! 1 step backward for 2 steps forward. One of the most valuable lessons (I didn’t realise how bauble at the time) I have ever learned from @portal.ido was at the very first workshop I ever attended with him - ALWAYS train 2 levels below your best! WHY? Because 2 levels below your best is consistently achievable... and consistency = results! It’s doesn’t mean you aren’t putting the effort in each and every session.... no no, you still need to train like a boss! It just means you are putting your effort into a process that is going to produce long term results. Static movements are one of the best way to build strength and can also be very affective in rehab programming as well. They help in building up lactic acid threshold and can help the muscle to get stronger without causing stress to the joints. I prefer doing a static movement towards the end of a workout as the muscles have already been through enough contraction and can’t go through more. So adding a static movement makes sure you get the maximum potential. Here you can see me doing a static bicep curl hold for 20 seconds for 8 rounds. You can do the same with squats, push up hold, hang on a bar, v hold, lateral dumbbell hold for shoulders to name a few exercises. Worst part with studying is not the hours of reading, writing reports, staying up late to make deadlines... 📖 it’s SITTING DOWN... for hours!! My body is just wondering what the f*ck is going on?! Cause it’s kind of hard to type on the laptop while moving. I can’t really sit on a chair with a nice upright torso, the soles of my feet placed on the floor with a 90degree flexion in my knees... No, can’t remain in that position for very long, not because I get pains, I just don’t like to stay in the same position for a longer amount of time. . So what to do? Easy 💁🏼‍♀️ switch up your positions! And as my body is mobile and flexible I have a lot of options to choose from, which makes all this sedentary hours of studying more varied, comfortable and enjoyable. But even if you’re not very flexible, you can still be creative in your positions. And why not switching up sitting on a chair with sitting on the floor or standing up? Endless of options friends.

SAHER is an NGO built to unify the kids of Bandra plot ( a small basti/chawl in Andheri East) where during the Hindu Muslim riots in the 90's hundreds of people were murdered. Sunday’s are typically leg day, but I’ve been having issues with my knee so I decided to hold off a little longer. Went in to train chest tonight but that didn’t happen either 😂 I was STILL too sore from triceps on FRIDAY😩 my body was literally telling me to chill today, so I listened. I did 25 min HIIT cardio on the treadmill and then abs. Feeling good and ready to go into this week strong!
