I love to hear when customers are excited about their Goods. It’s even better when I see pictures like this!🥰 #Repost @innerpeasmarketgarden with @get_repost ・・・ 🌱The Right Tools🌱 . The right tools, and the right clothes make for much smoother farming days. I’m so thankful there’s companies out there working on women’s work wear. For a long time (especially through my 20s) I was incredibly frustrated with the lack of women’s work wear. . Thankful for companies like @patagonia who’s coveralls I wear multiple times a week, and companies like @goodsandgather who make wicked items like this Gather Tunic. Look at the pockets!!! No more bending down a zillion times for each tomato clip.... and soon it will be full of little baby cherry tomatoes!! Eee! I’ll be putting in an order soon if any of my female farmer / hands on working ladies want to tag onto an order with meee!! . It really is the little things in life 💕.

FAREWELL, CAROLINE! Our first intern of the summer has returned to Arkansas, but not before leaving us one last video. Tune in for her final thoughts about her time spent on the farm. Can you guess what Caroline's favorite food from the bakery was? (hint: it's our best seller!) Pears and apples are coming in 😍 I posted in my stories about the fodder system and didn’t know if anyone else did it or where they purchased their seeds? I can’t seem to find feed grade seeds anywhere 👎🏻 boo

My “Organic Only” Challenge officially began today! ✨ Knowing how harmful pesticides and industrialized farming are for both our health and the planet - I wanted to take on this challenge to spread the word about its importance and to show how organic foods can be both affordable and accessible 🙌🏻 ✨ Feel free to check out the link in my bio for more details on the challenge! Thanks for following me along the way in hopes of making steps to revolutionize our food system!! 🌱✌🏻🌎 Also want to send the biggest shout out to those who have been such big inspirations to me in doing this challenge and who are leading the way in the regenerative agriculture and local/real food movements @zachbushmd @farmersfootprint @thepurelife_ @andreabemis @modfarm @earthcandyfarm - check out what they’re all up to!!

SPENT GRAIN // What is it? And how can it be a part of a sustainable life? It’s Friday and as part of my #TheLittleGreenLifestyle I want to share this cool food source!⠀ 💚⠀ To make beer, brewers need a large amount of barely. They soak the grain in hot water to extract the sugars to ferment. After soaking, the grains have served their purpose in beer making, and need to find a new purpose to prevent them from ending up in a landfill.⠀ 😣⠀ Those grains still have so much potential! High in protein and fiber they make great feed for your livestock! Craft breweries are also getting creative in other ways to use the grains using it for things like composting, mushroom growing, baking, and even powering their breweries.⠀ 🌱⠀ I first learned about spent grains from listening to @regrained talk about them on the @positivelygreenpodcast Regrained uses spent grains to make granola bars (how cool is that?!) So when my friend @air.ick.ahh told me her husband was brewing and asked if I would like the grains to feed my chickens I was super pumped!!! Not only do my ladies get a tasty and nutritious treat, but it’s giving a second life to perfectly good food that would otherwise be tossed. ⠀ 💚⠀ Further research shows that while the larger breweries often have avenues to send their grains to repurpose- many of the microbreweries do not and would love an opportunity to reuse them. Win win! You can check with any local breweries in your area to see if they have any spent grains up for grabs to use on your farm as well. 💚⠀ These ladies sure thought they were tasty 🐔🐔. Thanks again Ericka 😘 Hope you all have wonderful weekends 💚💚 #spentgrains #thelittlegreenwagon

At the current rate our world is headed - it’s estimated that humans will be completely gone from the earth in 70 years. It’s thought that we have 15 years left to turn things around before it’s too late. Hearing this on the @plant_proof Podcast with @zachbushmd reminded me again about the importance of getting in touch with nature, growing food, eating organic, staying away from chemicals as best we can, and getting connected to each other. As humans, we need to let the earth heal itself 🌎 In hopes of doing just that I’m taking on an “Organic Only” challenge from June 3rd to 29th. During this time I plan to share what I learn and discover through the process, as I attempt to eat ONLY organic foods. Stay tuned as I talk about more details on ✨ Also highly recommend everyone listens to @plant_proof podcast with @zachbushmd and watches @farmersfootprint documentary so they understand why I’m doing this and feel inspired to help revolutionize our food system along with me!! 💛

Did you know that bees pollinate 1/3 of the food that we eat? That’s right! Bees are responsible for pollinating...apples, avocados, watermelons, pumpkins, chocolate, pears, blackberries, raspberries, carrots, strawberries, beets, cabbage, tomatoes, cranberries, peppers, etc. We definitely depend on bees for a lot of our food. Things are getting pretty zoodley over here as bins of beautiful zucchini and summer squash are making their way onto our farmer’s market tables... Zoodley- an adjective made up by farmer Shanon to express her deep love for summer squash and her excitement about breaking out her spiralizer to make lots of zoodles! Derived from the word zoodle which translates to a noodle made out of a zucchini. I am fully embracing my millennial right to make up funny words for things and integrate them into my vocabulary like they have always been words. 😝 Let’s get zoodley people! Woo hoo! 😍 #ZOODLEPARTY #farmhumor Would Sqoodle be a noodle made out of a squash? Caroodle a noodle out of a carrot? Poodle a noodle out of a potato!?! Ok... I have gone too far... I should stop now. 🥒 🥕 🥔

RISE AND VINE. 🍅 It's chilly today, but our summer tunnel is growing like crazy. We grow indeterminate (vining) tomatoes in our high tunnels and keep them pruned and trellised. By keeping the plants pruned to a single vine and thinning leaves and fruit clusters, we ensure good airflow and plump fruits. We do the same with our high tunnel peppers and eggplants. Integrating the vertical plane into our production plans allows us to fit a lot of plants into a compact space. ________ #tomatoes #trellis #viningtomatoes #cngfarm #cngfarming #hightunnelgrowing #hoophouse #sustainablefarming #modfarmer #modernfarming #visitwardensville #wardensvillewv #westvirginia #appalachia

I *think* it might actually not be as mud pie-ish (<- like that 😂) in the garden to get these guys in 👏🏻... Corn, beans, peas, carrots, onions (red and yellow), potatoes (I got some fun purple ones to entice the kiddos to eat 🤦🏻‍♀️), garlic, tomatoes, peppers, watermelon, zucchini and squash. Herbs have been moved from inside to outside 🙌🏻 Have strawberries, blueberries and raspberries already in a separate bed. Pumpkins going in later this summer I’m sure I’m forgetting something #sendallthehelp 😂 Happy 🌞 Tuesday
