A diagrid is a triangular framing system of intersecting diagonal beams typically used in buildings eliminating the need for columns.
300 West 57 (aka the Hearst Tower) is a prime sample of such technic. This 46 story building was designed by Norman Foster and engineered by WSP Cantor Seinuk. The new tower was completed in 2006 replacing the originally built 1928 structure. The new construction preserved the original stone facade which had been designated a Landmark. The building was awarded the 2006 Emporis best skyscraper award.
