Welcome to an authentic Meghalayan village, far from the hustle and bustle of city life. ‘Mawphlang’ is that perfect painting that you may have hanging on the wall!
Exploring it further, we discovered this paradise, ‘The Sacred Forest’ as they call it. It’s believed that the spirits of the Khasi ancestors live in the dense forest, and one must not bring back even a piece of stone back from there.
The forest is home to varieties of flora and fauna, which is approximately 800 altogether. Be it orchids, medicinal trees to cancer, Rudraksh, and names you’ve not even heard of, it’s all there. The area in front of the forest is surrounded by little green mounds, and monoliths. As you walk into the forest, you can hear faint sounds of a stream flowing somewhere into it.
If you’re into photography, or have been waiting to try your hand at poetry and diving into nostalgia, this is it. You might just want to stay back in this paradise forever.
Did I mention, Mawsynram is the ‘Wettest place on Earth’ which has recorded the highest amount of rainfall. How could I not experience a heavy downpour while been there. Lucky enough to enjoy it!
This is the thing about weather in the mountains.
The weather will be sunny, then it gets cloudy all of a sudden over the next hill, then there comes the fog, and it rains.
All within minutes, and then, the sun is shining again. I’m mesmerised by the beauty of this heaven! .
