I'm sure you've heard the old adage about the cobbler whose children have no shoes, right? He's so busy and focused on making shoes for everyone else that he has neglected to take care of his own children's shoe needs. Well, have you heard the one about the artist that doesn't make art? No?That's ok because I just made it up 😝
The fact is that as much as I love art and making art, it usually ends of being put on the back burner so I can focus on all the other things required to run a creative business. Any of you other creative ladies feel me? 🙋
The truth is, as creatives, we can't neglect the very thing that feeds our soul. For me, making art is so much more than just smooshing some paint around or building something out of nothing - it's where my heart and mind can truly let go. It's where I feel the most alive...the most like ME!
When I don't have that creative component, the work I do feels more labored - like a duller version of itself. It's only in the last few weeks that I've realized just what a detriment putting art making on the back burner has been for me mentally, emotionally, and even spiritually.
If you are like me and have been neglecting your creativity, let's flip the script right here and now. Let's get our hands covered in paint, illustrate those ideas that have been brewing, make those collages, get in the zone and lose ourselves in our art 👩🎨 I'm committing to giving myself uninterrupted studio time during the week to just play and explore new ideas and I hope you'll do the same. I promise the time will be well sent and your soul will thank you!
