Rosy Greer's Review for CHRIS BEVINGTON ORGANISATION @ Bluefunk Rhythm & Blues Club, Poynton Legion, Poynton, Cheshire – 18.05.19
A fantastic evening at the wonderful Bluefunk Rhythm & Blues Club in Poynton with the highly acclaimed collective band ‘Chris Bevington Organisation’. As a collective of class musicians, the line up can change and tonight, as Jim Kirkpatrick was away, the young and incredibly talented Jordan Swann fronted the band on lead guitar, along side Scott Ralph on gripping vocals and lead guitar.
Stalwarts of the backline band leader Chris Bevington on bass and Neil MacCallum on drums kept the band in order with Dave Edwards on Hammond keys. It was also a pleasure to see young players being given a platform, with Ben Oakes on super sax and Lewis Topping on trombone. Completing the line up were Kate Robinson and Cath Ralph on haunting backing vocals.
Showcasing many of the splendid tracks from the current album ‘Cut and Run’ and some classics from other albums including one of my favourites ‘61 & 49’, from ‘The Better Start Cooking’ album. They also performed a spine chilling version of ‘Purple Rain’, beautifully sung by Kate and Cath with an awesome guitar solo from the young Jordan Swann.
Nobody could fault the charisma of the band and the superb musicianship that was on offer. As a nine piece they have that ‘big band’ sound of blues, funk and soul and with vocals from the master Scott Ralph, made this certainly a night to remember. They are a must to see if you get the chance.
