As part of all EcoCline Stewardship visits, our team thoroughly inspects and clears drains to ensure they're functioning properly. Often times we find that Sedum have migrated into the drain. In these cases we collect the Sedum and re-purpose it back on to the green roof.

Are cultural systems that we perceive as self-contained just parts of larger interconnected webs? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This question is explored by artists #DouglasEasterly and #MatthewKenyon in "Spore 1.1" (2004) where a rubber plant from @homedepot depot is connected to a computer that drives the system's water pumps. It also monitors the price of Home Depot's stock via the internet: if the stock is doing well, the plant receives more water, and when it declines, so does the water supply. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ [⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #quoartis_pickoftheday #artandscience #homedepot #livingsystems #technologyandart #naureandtechnology #art #artistduo #technologicalinnovation #plant #science #наукаитехника #наукаиисскуство #исскуство

We still have a couple hundred thousand feminized hemp seeds available. It's getting to crunch time for farmers still trying to get in the groundthis season. We've seen emergence in as quickly as 12 hours. The seed is licensed in about 10 states and three countries, high germination/fem rates, is bred for bag appeal as well as biomass, as well as for pest, pathogen and virus resistance. These seeds were made by a 27 year long grower and breeder of cannabis. A lot of time, energy and resources have been put into wiping away the blood, sweat and tears. We're happy to be here; in great service of this plant. DM/email. #hempseed #colorado #oregon #livingsystems #hempfarming #love #light #sound

Nemophila maculata, with common names baby blue eyes and fivespot, is a species of flowering plant in the borage family. It is endemic to California. We use it as a ground cover not a cover crop. Genus name comes from the Greek words nemos meaning wooded pasture or glade and phileo meaning to love in reference to the habitat of some species. #Herbanology #organicallygrown #properlycured #cannabisappellations #boutiquecannabis #sungrown #supportsmallfarmers #livingsoil #sunandearthcertified #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativecannabis #soilfoodweb #biodiversity #ecosystem #mendocino #cannabiscountry #boutiquecannabis #craftcannabis #smallbatch #smallfarmer #sungrown #cannabiscountry #permittedcannabis #badasscuts #photography #nikon1j4 #diversity #livingsystems #purplepunch #fivespot #nemophilamaculata #borage #Boraginaceae

A tomato wrapped around a lamb’s quarters stem, which is a grown-in-place trellis. This year, I didn’t have to buy anything, or even haul branches. #simplify #transformation

Cover Crop vs Ground Cover - Austrian Winter Pea growing along side our Purple Punch Cannabis variety- is a cover crop and not a ground cover. The Austrian Winter Pea is a low growing vine annual legume. It is sometimes called a black pea or field pea. Austrian winter peas are top nitrogen (N) producers, yielding from 90 to 150 lb. N/A, and at times up to 300 lb. N/A. Austrian winter peas harvested as hay then applied as mulch mineralized N at more than double the rate of alfalfa hay. In addition to the nitrogen benefit, the peas in a rotation may reduce the severity of soil-borne diseases that attack winter wheat and spring barley. Rapid spring growth helps peas out compete weeds and make an N contribution in time for summer cash crops in some areas. Forage booster: Field peas grown with barley, oat, triticale or wheat provide excellent livestock forage. Peas slightly improve forage yield, but significantly boost protein and relative feed value of small grain hay. Long-term bloomer: The purple and white blossoms of field peas are an early and extended source of nectar for honeybees. Chill tolerant: Austrian winter pea plants may lose some of their top growth during freezes, but can continue growing after temperatures fall as low as 10° F. #Herbanology #organicallygrown #properlycured #cannabisappellations #womangrown #womenincannabis #boutiquecannabis #sungrown #supportsmallfarmers #livingsoil #sunandearthcertified #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativecannabis #soilfoodweb #biodiversity #ecosystem #mendocino #cannabiscountry #boutiquecannabis #craftcannabis #smallbatch #smallfarmer #sungrown #cannabiscountry #permittedcannabis #badasscuts #photography #nikon1j4 #nativecaliforniaplants #diversity #garden #livingsystems #austrianwinterpeas

The low-growing habit of sweet alyssum makes it a great border plant. It is can be an annual or perennial depending on climate but will often self-seed. Although there are many colors of sweet alyssum and I regularly use them all, white sweet alyssum attracts the most beneficial insects. Sweet alyssum acts as a living mulch. It shades the soil, keeping it moist, which allows the soil to support the beneficial organisms that live in the soil. Alyssum provides above-ground habitat for beneficial insects. Providing undisturbed habitat is an important part of attracting beneficial insects to the garden. - Ground beetles and fireflies are the best soldiers to combat slugs. Sweet alyssum comes to the rescue by providing the undisturbed habitat and nectar that the adult beetles and fireflies look for. The adult beetles and the firefly larvae are the beneficial predators that hunt for slugs. To combat flea beetles, you will want to attract—among other beneficial insects—braconid wasps. The adult wasps are attracted to the pollen and nectar of the alyssum flower, and will lay their eggs on flea beetle larvae. Once hatched, the braconid wasp larvae feeds on the flea beetle larvae. #Herbanology #organicallygrown #properlycured #cannabisappellations #womangrown #womenincannabis #boutiquecannabis #sungrown #supportsmallfarmers #livingsoil #sunandearthcertified #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativecannabis #soilfoodweb #biodiversity #ecosystem #mendocino #cannabiscountry #boutiquecannabis #craftcannabis #smallbatch #smallfarmer #sungrown #cannabiscountry #permittedcannabis #badasscuts #photography #nikon1j4 #nativecaliforniaplants #diversity #garden #livingsystems #sweetalyssum

Mendocino Cannabis & Nitrogen Fixing, Perennial Species, Ground Cover White Clover Trifolium repens L. Roles: living mulch, erosion protection, green manure, beneficial insect attraction White clovers are a top choice for “living mulch” systems planted between rows of irrigated vegetables, fruit bushes or trees. They are persistent, widely adapted perennial nitrogen producers with tough stems and a dense shallow root mass that protects soil from erosion and suppresses weeds. Depending on the type, plants grow just 6 to 12 inches tall, but thrive when mowed or grazed. Once established, they stand up well to heavy field traffic and thrive under cool, moist conditions and shade. White clover is one of the most important pasture legumes. It is highly palatable and nutritious forage for all classes of livestock and most wildlife. Erosion control: Grass seedings benefit from the nitrogen produced by white clover included in the seed mixture. Solid stands of white clover form a good erosion control cover on moist fertile soils, but stands may be sparse or spotty on dry sites. White clover is normally used as a companion crop with forage grasses to provide a source of nitrogen while also providing high-yielding forage rich in protein. Including white clover in a grass forage mix also increases the calcium concentration of the forage compared to grass alone. #Herbanology #organicallygrown #properlycured #cannabisappellations #womangrown #womenincannabis #boutiquecannabis #sungrown #supportsmallfarmers #livingsoil #sunandearthcertified #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativecannabis #soilfoodweb #biodiversity #ecosystem #mendocino #cannabiscountry #boutiquecannabis #craftcannabis #smallbatch #smallfarmer #sungrown #cannabiscountry #permittedcannabis #badasscuts #photography #nikon1j4 #nativecaliforniaplants #diversity #garden #livingsystems #balance

Backyard moss on a rainy day. Mosses are some of the earliest land plants discovered on earth. Scientists have been able to trace them back over 480 million years ago.
