I have learnt through my years of living an āyurvedic lifestyle how to manage + tap into my bodies + minds needs. I used to work to the point of exhaustion, give give + then give some more till I couldn’t anymore - I would literally crash. Add to that a hyper vigilant state from years of my nervous system holding on to traumas that literally became me. My body would have to stop me before I would mindfully do it. I would feel spacey, anxious , panicked, have sluggish digestion, was in my head all the time. - these are emotional signals that we are experiencing an increase of air and ether elements in our inner environments. The elements air + ether qualities are erratic, cold, full of movement and are unpredictable. As well as our vagus nerve telling us that you have some big stuff to deal with - our gut and brain they are close + communicating all the time. . My constitution, me at the core naturally love to work , I move quickly, I am very passionate and love to work - always have. Pitta /Vāta are my dominate constitutional traits. So if you are also like this and find yourself feeling depleted, here are some simple ways you can balance yourself. . • get to bed by 10ish and turn off your screens - blue blockers are fine once in a while but when they can become a crutch. . • Eat sweet, warming + oily foods - whole grains, root veggies, ginger, cinnamon, warm teas , avoid cold drinks , + ghee. To name a few. Sweet does not mean refined processed junk. Decrease or switch out coffee to herbal teas. . • apply warming oil or medicated ayurvedic oil like sesame to your skin and give yourself a message daily ( avoid while bleeding) Apply oil to the bottoms of your feet. . •get out into nature . . • avoid vigorous exercise opt for something lighter and more focused. . Add Ashwaganda and tulsi to your day. . Remember everyone is so individual +may or may not require all of these things. . . What I love about this ancient science is that is has longevity in its effectiveness, it is rooted in nature - and has helped me not only heal myself but help countless others do the same. . Ready to take your life to the next level - now booking into June - DM me.

I love the quiet the morning brings. The lightness and the clarity. My wake up time for years was 4 am - after a child my waking hours where all over the place - it’s a season in life - as a mother I have learned to surrender to what is and not fight things. . . As our son gets older and sleep is more consistent- these precious ambrosial hours are the time I cherish. This is the time I take care of me - simple self-care practices like cleaning my mouth and tongue. Drinking warm water with lemon and then settling down with a cup of CCF tea, journal, quiet and a short time to realign my mind - drop deep into myself. Prayers and mantra are usually done at this time - aromatics burning and diffusing. I finish off with a few sequences of sun salutations before I hear the rambling of tiny feet. . . Waking at this time allows me to carry this lightness into my day - life can be messy , busy and scattered at times and and times like these are what allow me to bring the responses to my day in a calm mindful matter. . . Meditation is powerful. I hope you can incorporate it into your day. . . Āyurvedic practices have supported me through some major like events, traumas and grief. Āyurveda provides a deep perspective into nature’s rhythmic cycles - which ultimately reconnect you to yourself.

Ayurveda teaches us that our health relies on our harmony and balance with the elements (earth, water, fire, air, space/ether) which make up our constitutions if vata, pitta and kapha. This means that a disconnect from nature is something we need to examine in our lives. . . Nature in its very essence heals us, when we tune in we can invoke our self healing. . . Nature soothes our nervous system and invites us to connect with something larger then ourselves. . . A walk through the woods , by a river, a park, your garden or simply being with plants can reduce worry, stress and anxiety. . . How do you connect with nature? . . I spend most of my days outdoors in our gardens, walking the woods or by the river. When I can I head north and spend some time disconnected and reconnecting by the lakes. I communicate with Earth everyday by giving thanks , feet and hands in the soil and firmly supported by the earth. I connect with nature through the abundance she offers in ways of food and medicine. Through the sun and her magnetic pull of love. In the colder months I get outside still and connect with the beauty of it all. As for the sun in winter in the colder months, like here in Canada a Seperti Vitamin D lamp. Keeping house plants is also a bonus. .

A little yoga stretching is a good thing. It is especially helpful to ease away back problems that comes from shovelling too much snow. But I have noticed that my little sleepover friends enjoy the mat time as well. But their enjoyment of it is less about stretching and more about enjoying it as a new place to lay down and enjoy the heat from the wood stove. I have also learned that trying to do yoga with two dogs in the house is almost impossible because they think that there must be something terribly wrong with me to be lying on the floor. Their attempts to save me from whatever they think it is, has me back on my feet quiet fast and they seem very proud of themselves for making me feel better! Then they go back to sleep and do their dog dreaming! #dogs #dogsofinstagram #yoga #yogamat #healthylifestyle #lifestylewisdom #friends #maggiesinn #winter #dogsitting #thesimplelife #gaspesie #tellingstories

Rta - pronounced “ruh-tah” is the root of the world rhythm in English. . . When we respect the outer rhythm, the inner rhythm gives us health. Your mind, body and soul will become aligned, and you no longer have to look beyond this to discover the ultimate truth of health, life and happy existence. There no magical or mystical encounter - it is you remembering our own ability and right to heal by intention, sacred thought, and nature’s pure ingredients- sunshine, air, earth, and foods that are soul satisfying and naturally sourced. By having a consistent interaction between inner life and outer life of nature - we naturally establish Rta.

b h a s m a . . Bhasma is a Sanskrit word that means “bone ash,” “cinder” or “disintegration.” It comes from the root bha, meaning “delusion,” “appearance” or “likeness,” and sma, meaning “ever” or “always.” In Hinduism and yoga, bhasma is sacred ash. In some traditions, it is thought to contain the energy of Shiva. In the traditional Indian medical system of Ayurveda, bhasma is a type of medicinal powder made through calcination of stones, gems, minerals or metals. There are a wide range of bhasmas used to treat many types of ailments. . . In the spiritual context, bhasma symbolizes burning the ego to ashes in order to unite with the higher Self or the divine. It represents liberation from the limitations of mortal life and freedom from the cycle of reincarnation. It is also a reminder of the temporary nature of the physical body, which will one day return to ashes. Also called vibhooti, bhasma is the sacred ash from the fire of a yogi or saint or from the sacrificial fire known as yajna in which special wood, herbs, grains, ghee and other items are offered as part of a worship ritual. Bhasma is thought to destroy sin and consume evil. . . . . . . . #ayurvedalifestyle #ayurvedicpractitioner #vedas #bhasma #meditation #yoga #yogi #nature #shiva #lifestylewisdom

a g n i . . Fire element, the second of five basic elements in the body; it regulates temperature, performs digestion, absorption, and assimilation of indigested food, and transforms food into energy or consciousness. . . Signs of balanced Agni: •Vibrant energy •Clear and glowing skin •Mental clarity •Feeling into the sensation of hunger •Consistent and regular bowel movements and well formed stools . . If you feel tired after a meal, it is a sign of weak digestion. It’s like you have added a log to a weak flame, now energy needs to be used to burn through the log and reset the fires . . A few ways you can start to increase your digestive fire and improve your digestion, absorption and assimilation are: •Start your day with warm water not cold •Sip on hot water throughout the day •Avoid drinking ice cold beverages as these extinguish digestive flame •Avoid drinking large amounts of liquids-with meals •Make lunch your bigger and main meal of the day - this is when the sun energy is strongest and digestive fire is highest . . These are just a few simple ways you can start- because we are all uniquely made up- working with all guidance is very individualized. DM if you would like to learn more. . . Walking meditation is a form of moving meditation – that is, a shift of consciousness while moving, rather than sitting or lying in stillness while focusing on the breath. Proponents of walking meditation believe that walking also stills the mind and provides a path to contemplation. Walking a labyrinth is one form of walking meditation, but the walking meditation location does not have to be that structured. A nature path or anywhere that allows 10 to 30 paces works as long as it is a quiet location. The walking is slower than a normal pace and typically involves a particular focus, or it coordinates with the breath. . . With walking meditation, the yogi uses the natural movement to create a mindful practice. It's often recommended that this form of meditation last 10 to 20 minutes or longer and to anchor one's self for one to two minutes with deep breathing before walking. Some types of walking meditation include: •Yoga walking meditation – coordinates pranayama with the steps . •Kinhin Zen walking meditation – walking in a clockwise circle around a room with the hands at the belly in a form of mudra and taking a full breath before each step . •Theravada Buddhist walking meditation – walking back and forth on the same 30- to 40-foot path with the focus on the sensations of walking . •Thich Nhat Hanh's walking meditation – repeating specific affirmations while walking slowly and deliberately . •Daoist walking meditation – not a single practice, but many mostly focusing on visualization to harmonize body and mind . . . #meditation #walking #ayurvedicpractitioner #yoga #yogi #ayurveda #veda #walkingmeditation #ayurvedicherbalist #lifestylewisdom

I work from home, teach and am a busy mother and the days I have to create are vital in my business- sometimes this flow needs a different context. . . When this feeling hits - I change my enviorment - I move to another place in the house or II get out of the house - I get into the context of what I want to accomplish. Do I need to think things through or get clear on somthing? wanting ideas to flow? - I get outside - into nature - this for me is where this happens best. . Do I want to create content, programs and workshops? I get into an environment that tends to have a creative energy or vibe already there. Cafes are a good place - lots of work getting done, creativity is in the air. . . Sometimes we need to just take 20 mins to clear and clean our current environment- when stagnation is cleared - things naturally flow - not to mention our nagging subconscious isn’t bugging us while we are trying to work about cleaning the dishes and laundry 😉 Moving our bodies every 40min and taking 5 min uninterrupted intentional breathes - game changers. . . o i l p u l l i n g . . Oil pulling is an oral therapy used in the traditional Indian medicine system of Ayurveda in which certain types of oils are swished in the mouth for 20 minutes for the purpose of cleaning the mouth and for other health benefits. Specifically, oil pulling is believed beneficial for fighting plaque and gingivitis and removing microorganisms. . . In the "Charaka Samhita," the Sanskrit Ayurvedic text, oil pulling is called kavala or gandusha, both Sanskrit words that mean "gargling" or "holding liquid in the mouth." . . To practice oil pulling, a tablespoon of oil such as sesame, sunflower or coconut is held in the mouth and swished around. Some practitioners recommend starting with five minutes and building up to 20 minutes. The oil is then spit out and the mouth rinsed with water. The oil is said to attract the cells of microorganisms, which are covered with a fatty membrane that adheres to the oil. . . Oil pulling: Prevents tooth decay Brightens teeth Prevents gum disease Gets rid of bad breath Boosts energy Removes mucous Clears sinuses Supports the immune system Decreases inflammation Reduces headaches . . . . #ayurvedicpractitioner #oilpulling #oralcare #dinacharya #ayurveda #ayurvediclifestyle #yogi #yoga #spaceholder #holistichealing #local #lifestylewisdom

Water stored in a copper jug or bottle is known as “tamara jal” When water is stored in a copper vessel , the copper gently leeches into the water and leads to its positive properties. HE WHO IS SILENT . . Muni can be translated to mean "he who is silent." It is related to mauna, which means "sacred silence" or "meditation." The Sanskrit term may be used for a sage, or sadhu, who has made a vow of complete silence or who speaks only exceptionally. Their silence is part of their search for stillness of mind. . . A muni may also refer to a hermit, or someone who is naturally attracted to a life of spiritual desire and has no longing for money, home, family or status. In the context of yoga, it has been used to refer to yogis. . . A muni is someone who is constantly committed to exploring the mysteries of nature, or someone who is constantly engaged in examining the real nature of life and its related problems through tapas (austerity or purification of the self). Being a muni is a step between being an ordinary person and a rishi, which is a saint who has realized truths and gained eternal knowledge. . . In ancient yogic literature, especially in the oldest "Rig Veda," the term, muni, was also used as an early reference to yogis. It is believed that the munis in ancient India practiced yoga, austerities and rites as well as glorified a life of renunciation, isolation, wandering and begging. . . . . #muni #rigveda #ayurvedalifestyle #rajayoga #ayurvedicpractitioner #sadhu #sage #rishi #tapas #knowledge #meditation #silence #witness #yogi #mystic #lifestylewisdom #yoga #mindbodysoul #intuitive #witness #listen #heartscience

Our newest blog article tackles the very sensitive climate of me too, political polarization and loving our neighbor no matter what. This is a perspective we don’t often see, but one that is needed if we wish to live harmoniously with those whose opinions we do not share. Here’s an excerpt: “I do not know how I will feel if Judge Kavanaugh is appointed to the Supreme Court, but I do know that I cannot, in truth, separate myself from those whom I disagree with. I cannot treat them as if they are wrong and I am right, and I cannot say they are not my brothers and sisters–no matter how unhinged I may think they are. This is how I intend to survive the #MeToo era–arm in arm with my allies and my enemies alike.” . .
