Caesalpinia ferrea, previously known as Libidibia ferrea and commonly known as Brazilian ironwood, leopard tree, and Pau ferro and is a source of nectar for honeybees. Thanks for the info @skateboardingbotanist ! as I don't have much information on this plant. Also known as Rautakesalpinia in Finnish; Brasilianisches Eisenholz and Leopardenbaum in German; respectively. The silky white bark is also a very attractive feature of this species. This tropical beauty is planted all around the world as a street or feature tree. They can grow to as high as 30m in their favoured sub-tropical climate. This one is often confused for the golden rain tree (Koelreuteria paniculata)

Couple new blocks of wood, Libidibia ferrea 'Brazilian ironwood' (by way of Turkey) with a density of 1275kg per cubic metre, and figured Eucalyptus saligna 'Sydney blue gum' from a local wood shop with a density of 907kg per cubic metre. I have a long fascination with dense wood and like to calculate and compare the density of diffefent species. 1,000,000,000 ÷ volume in cubic millimetres × weight in grams ÷ 1000 = kilograms per cubic metre. #exoticwood #australianwood #ironwood #brazilianironwood #libidibiaferrea #eucalyptussaligna #sydneybluegum

Did you know that NParks conducts a walking tour for the Civic District Tree Trail? We are glad we checked out the tour today as we learnt loads about the old or unusual trees and, of course, several heritage trees in the heart of our city. Captured here is the leopard tree (libidibia ferrea), which is the same type you'll see clustered at the outdoor seating area in front of Plaza Singapura. This one, however, branches out in a totally different way from the usual tall and upright form, giving it a dramatic crown and its unique character. With peeling bark that gives it its shades of brown, she's a beauty. Do check out NParks site for the next available slots! P.S. Bring a hat! ✨ . . . . #civicdistricttreestrail #singapore #sg #sgtrees #sgstreetscape #leopardtree #treelove #treeporn #tree #tree_brilliance #libidibiaferrea #civicdistricttour #urbanjunglebloggers #plantpeople #treepeople #treehugger #nparksbuzz
