@cesarismael.gomez @fza_get @elisaapatiga #dejandounrastrodeconciencia #siemprehaytiempoparaentrenar #ploggingmx #ploggingméxico #LeadOnClimate #changemakers

10 DAY CLIMATE CAMPAIGN COUNTDOWN + Climate solution #10 - Thanks to you all, we’ve raised $6200 for my climate expedition to the Arctic! I still have to secure almost $4000 more and I have 10 days left. Can you all help me get to my $10,000 goal in the next 10 days? Please consider donating and share the link far and wide! LINK IN BIO to donate and for further details on the expedition 💚🙏🏾🌳!! . . Climate solution #10 - if you’re looking to reduce your carbon impact, think about putting some into the soil by planting trees 🌳. Afforestation can enhance the forest land and it’s trees remove carbon from the atmosphere and over time stores it in its tree biomass as well as distributing it into the soil. Afforestation can also protect against soil erosion and flooding, but if done/managed incorrectly, can modify and reduce biodiversity. . Japanese botanist, Akira Miyawaki, devised a novel method of afforestation 🌳that involves fast growing, dense plots of native species. His method has shown that afforestation can sequester carbon, support biodiversity, prevent flood and drought while also providing for some food and medicinal needs. While reducing our fossil fuel use, let’s also plant trees to bring down emissions further. The sooner you do it the better, as these babies take sometime to effectively drawdown atmospheric carbon. 📸 @waypras

After being kicked out of the ghost town Immerath by RWE private security service, we came back the next day, during "visit time", to shoot the surroundings. While there, we met Willhelm Fischermann. Despite having been already relocated, he keeps on coming back here to pick walnuts for and other fruit in the woods. He told.us about the struggle of relocating, the feeling of being abandoned by the government, and how the wildlife has been gradually disappearing over the years. Climate solution #11 - If you’re considering buying a new car to commute around the city, think about buying yourself and electric car 🚗 ⚡️!Two thirds of the worlds oil consumption is used to fuel cars and trucks and the transport sector accounts for about 23% of global carbon emissions, second in line to electricity generation. . If electric cars are powered by the electricity grid, they create 12.2 pounds of carbon emissions as opposed to 25 pounds from a gasoline driven car - a 50% reduction! And if the electricity is derived from solar, then emissions drop by 95% 😲 #no2gas amirite? . An issue many have with EVs is the “range anxiety” it causes - how far can one drive before needing to charge the car again. Most EVs of 2018 can run a little more than 160km/ 100 miles in one charge . The average urban Indian commuter travels less than 35 kms per day and the average American - 65 km/ 40 miles per day. So the EV can definitely take you around the city before you can get back to have it charging again. Progress is being made and the range numbers are expected to get better, as well as the accessibility to more charging stations. 📸 @electricride

Climate solution #12 - insulation is one of the most cost- effective ways to make a building efficient - both in constructing new buildings and also retrofitting old ones. . . Heat always moves from warmers areas to cooler ones. For instance, during summer, hot air gets through to cooler indoor spaces through gaps around windows and doors etc. Making air conditioners work overtime. And in the winter, heat escapes the same way. By insulating your house, you not only lessen your energy costs, you also reduce your emissions! And given that summers are getting worse, air conditioning (in urban areas) is only going to increase, so it is important that we consider getting our houses insulated to reduce our costs and emissions. 🌫 . Insulation isn’t something new though, the photo above is of a village in Faroe Islands 🇫🇴 where villagers and farmers have been using turf roofs for thousands of years. Beautiful innit? 📸 @affranchie.blog

Credits: @greenmattersRecently Boston made the decision to invest in a network of waterfront parks that will add 67 acres of green space to the coast and restore 122 tidal acres rather than spending $11.8B on a four-mile barrier around the Boston Harbor that UMass researches warned against. Sea walls are a short-term solution to a long-term problem and many of them crumble and break down within a few decades. Rebuilding wetlands and implementing water front parks is central to the Dutch approach to flood management. The Netherlands has long preached living with — rather than fighting — water, but the concept is now catching on in America. City planners like the idea because it gives them a better opportunity to divert the flooding wherever they want it to go, all while avoiding some of the issues that are typically attached to sea walls: coastal erosion, soaring costs, and interference with marine life.

Climate solution #13 - the shipping industry is an essential part that contributes to the world economy. If goods have to cross from one continent to another, ships 🚢 are the most carbon effective way of transporting them. A plane emits 47 times more CO2 to transport the same quantities of goods in the same distance as a ship would. . Shipping oil, rice, running shoes and iron ore across oceans produces 3% of global GHGs and is only projected in increase. Increasing shipping efficiency can have a significant impact, which is why research is being done and ships are being made more efficiently through better design, use of lightweight material and even using solar panels onboard. Such innovations can significantly reduce fuel use of the ship and in effect emissions. . Trading and consuming will be inevitable, so if we have to buy something, we can atleast make the choice to have it shipped / delivered with as small of a carbon footprint as possible. If you can source the product you want close to home then choose that as opposed to any other means of delivery. If you have to buy / ship something internationally, forgo next day or 2 day international delivery and plan in advance to have the product shipped to you. And maybe rethink buying a new pair of running shoes when your other pair is in good shape? 😏. 📸 @shipfotos

Storms, hurricanes, droughts, rising sea level and record breaking temperatures caused by climate change increase the vulnerability of ecosystems and communities. But we can improve our resilience to climate change and combat biodiversity loss by restoring and protecting ecosystems.

Climate Solution #14 - Switch to LED (light emitting diode) lighting! LEDs use 90% less energy for the same amount of light 💡 in an incandescent bulb. It lasts much longer than any other kind of bulb - 27 years when used for 5 hours a day! . Less energy means lesser costs. Moreover, using lesser energy translates to using less coal fueled electricity from the grid and lesser emissions :) so it’s a win win! While LED lights are 2-3 times more expensive than an incandescent bulb, prices are dropping and your energy costs in the long run are much lesser considering LEDs last longer and use less energy. . Using incandescent lighting? Change them to LEDs if you can and reduce your energy consumption, costs and most importantly emissions! 📸 @wilsti

The time is now Ontarians!!! We have until tomorrow to tell the Ontario government what we would like to see in the new Climate Action Plan . As promised, you can find a copy of my comments in the form of a google document (link in bio). Feel free to plagiarize to your heart’s content. It is not all encompassing, but it is a start . Ontario is the 2nd largest producer of greenhouse gases in Canada 😳 The largest sources of GHG emissions in Ontario are: 1) TRANSPORTATION (individual drivers predominantly) 🚗 2) Industry 🏗 3) Buildings 🏡 . A robust climate plan that has any chance of meeting the IPCC’s mandate to limit warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius must include: ✅ A legally binding multi-year carbon reduction budget set 12 or more years in advance, with a 45% GHG reduction by 2030, and 100% reduction by 2050 ✅ Expansion of public transportation, and electric transportation, as well as a firm cut-off date for all vehicle emissions ✅ A green building code that includes mandatory use of renewable energy sources, proper insulation, and electric vehicle charging stations ✅ A transition to a green energy grid ✅ An emphasis on ensuring equity and creating prosperity. There is a huge opportunity to create local jobs, boost local businesses, and improve the quality of life for the people of Ontario ✅ Provincial and Federal government cooperation aka drop the provincial legal challenge against the federal carbon tax . To comment, go to ontario.ca and type in climate change. It is the first link that pops up . We must hold our politicians to higher standards. We must demand more. Today. Tomorrow. And all the days after.

Climate Solution #15 - Growing bamboo can be a great way to address climate change. Bamboo rapidly sequesters carbon in biomass and soil and can take out CO2 from the air faster than almost any other plant. It comes under the top ten fastest growing plants in the world 🌎 and can even thrive on degraded lands! . Bamboo has the tensile strength (resistance to breaking under tension) of steel and compressive strength ( resistance to breaking under compression) of concrete and can be used in almost every part of a building- it’s a SUPERPLANT ✊🏾🎋 . But we also have to take care and manage how we grow it - it is an invasive species and can have negative effects on the native ecosystem. But by managing it well in appropriate locations we can maximise the good tings bamboo has to offer - CO2 removal, paper, clothes, building material and toothbrushes :) . . #bamboo so great #shakira even made a song on it

#altripianiproject . . . #climatechange #globalwarming #leadonclimate #actonclimate #dolomitiunesco #dolomitiamo #dolomitilovers #puremountain #lifeofadventure #liveauthentic #beautifuldestinations #exploremore #earthofficial #peoplewhohike #hikingadventures #worldnomads #wondermore #ourplanetdaily #beautifuldestinations #visualsoflife #seetoshare #travelersjournal #mountaineering #liveoutdoors #moodygrams #theoutdoorpassion #peopleinaframe #gogreen #reduceyourcarbonfootprint

The current Californian wildfires, the heat waves that happened in Europe over the summer and extreme weather patterns globally have all become worse because of warmer arctic temperatures. . . A review paper in the journal Nature Communications has found the links between warming in the arctic to summer weather. The jet stream - which is like a river of strong winds in the northern hemisphere that influences weather in the mid latitude regions- has been changing. The stream runs its natural course around the globe due to the temperature contrast between the arctic and tropics. But as the temperature difference has been reducing, the stream has been weakening - making fewer weather changes and persistent, harsher summers and winters. . . Many of us probably don’t think about the arctic much because it’s so far away - how could melting ice possibly affect us? - reality is that the Arctic is so closely related to the way we experience our daily lives and we are basically shooting our selves in the foot with our increasing emissions. #reduceemissions

Corals are vital for survival of many fish species and marine life ( if you haven’t seen blue planet II 🌏, it’s high time you did because they narrate such wonderful stories of nature adorned with the beauty that rests underwater) 🐠 🌊. . . But over the years we have lost 27% of our coral reefs due to human activity. Global warming and ocean acidification a have drastic impact on coral survival. When corals are stressed by changing conditions such as temperature and pH levels, they expel the symbiotic algae present in their tissue - making them white and causing “coral bleaching”. . The IPCC report on 1.5 degrees has found that corals will go extinct at 2C and if we limit warming to 1.5C then there is atleast 10% of them will survive. We unfortunately are going to lose significant coral populations, but we have still have a chance at keeping them alive - only if we make the choice of reducing our emissions and limiting warming below 1.5C. We need to make this choice NOW and TAKE ACTION to fight climate change✊🏾.

The second biggest sector when it comes to global greenhouse gas emissions is the agriculture, forestry and other land use sector (AFOLU). From this sector, 40% of emissions come from rearing ruminants such as cows 🐄, buffalo 🐃, goat 🐐 and sheep 🐑. . . How do they create emissions? “Enteric fermentation” which is a digestive process particular to ruminants involves certain microbes breaking down the food and creating methane gas (in the form of a burp/ fart 💨) as a by product. This methane - a GHG 30x more potent than CO2 - is what ends up significantly contributing to warming. . Our insatiable demand for meat products has created a thriving meat industry that directly contributes to the degradation of our planet. The latest special report on 1.5 degrees by IPCC recommends that we drastically reduce our meat consumption and move towards eating more plant based diets if we are to keep warming under 1.5C. Even changing to a flexitarian diet of one serving of red meat per week makes a huge difference! . Are you going to reduce your meat intake? 🌱

But he would spend billions on military and fossil fuel production that both are killing us all not that slowly or quietly anymore and happy to go full force into business and silence anyone that stands in his way. He is stressing our minds, hearts & lives and tearing our society apart with his prejudice & narcissism. Sad for yet another mass shooting this week. And again not from any terrorist from a foreign country but a white male that served his country in the military and out of boredom shot 12 people in a bar. PTSD is real and is effecting those in the most terrible situations. From the young and old affected in war and the young and old affected in a natural disaster. Anger, hate, resentment, fear, and delusions of grandeur are professionally bread in the military & war mongering politics, reprogramming the mind to dehumanize and lose any sense of real compassion. This is also the result from the aftermath of an attack, oppression and a natural disaster. Desperate HELP is need for society to deal with PTSD. We are all in this together and no matter how wealth you are you are and will be effected. But the wealthy now has the opportunity to make some major changes how they spend their money. 📷 @grantdenham #leadonclimate #woolsey

@Regrann from @masoodalikhanmusic - Feeling so sad for all life right now & angry @ those that don’t care about the #environment. Sad for the loss of all the precious animals, trees & medicinal herbs in the fires Sad for the numbness of humanity to witness disasters as sensational entertainment unless it’s in our backyard. Sad for the way too slow wake up 2 climate change from the governments & industries of the world that are making the world warmer by pumping more pollution & #CO2 into the atmosphere. This is drying out the land so more fires happen; melting the ice pack that are slowing down the ocean currents that warm the water & kill the coral reefs.

The biggest culprit when it comes to direct greenhouse gas emissions globally is the energy sector. Almost 72% of our global emissions come from the energy sector out of which electricity+heat is 31% and transport 15% of the emissions. . . Carbon emissions from the energy sector have been growing almost every year. We need a drastic decline in emissions and we are not even seeing it plateau. . . We must try and adopt renewables- find a renewable power supplier in your area, invest in your own solar rooftop if you can/ feasible, get better insulation for your home. These will only drive your energy costs lower in the long run. But, going renewable isn’t enough if it is not accompanied with coal plant shutdowns and phase out of fossil fuels. We must demand governments to phaseout fossil fuels - write/ talk to them, engage with and join your community already doing such work to fight the issue. We need to work on these as a community simultaneously if we want to live sustainably soon. ✊🏾💚

Current fires in 3 areas in California - mostly near LA. High winds and dry air cost the fires to spread with amazing speed! 🌎🔥🔥💥☄️🌎🌑🌑🌑 The smokey haze can even be seen from the International Space Station. “I was asked this evening if we can see the SoCal fires from space,” tweeted Astronaut Randy Bresnick. “... unfortunately, we can. May the Santa Ana’s die down soon.” This is a devastation! ... ... ... #climatechange #fire #firefighter #california #globalwarming #humidity #leadonclimate #action

Our oceans and seas are known to be carbon “sinks” as they remove CO2 from the air by readily dissolving it in water. Oceans dissolve about a quarter of CO2 that we emit every year. When it dissolves the pH of the ocean becomes more acidic. Our beautiful oceans have the natural capacity to neutralize these slight changes in pH as the mineral calcite (CaCO3) found at the bottom of the ocean floor dissolved and balances the pH out. . . But the rapid increase in CO2 is quickly making the ocean acidic and depleting the calcite present at the bottom of the ocean faster than it can be naturally produced. This is negatively affecting marine life and ecosystems. For instance, creatures like crabs 🦀 , mollusks and corals, whose exoskeletons are made of calcite will have a harder time growing their shells 🐚 because of acidification 😭. . We need to reduce our emissions NOW lest we lose these wonderful creatures in our lifetime. . . Update on my Arctic expedition fundraising - I have reached 28% of my $10,000 goal and need to raise 7k in the next 20 days to be able to go on the climate expedition! Please support by donating to my campaign (link in bio) and if you can’t, please do share and help me spread the word! 🙏🏾💚🌏✊🏾 can you help me reach my goal?
