Our new little dwelling, or as I like to call it ‘The beach house down the back’, has been deliberately positioned on the site so we enter via the rear lane. We face a garage, not a front streetscape. It was a deliberate move.
With my love @christopher___________________ active in town planning and with an undergrad in architecture, my learning and thriving on doing permanent things to Australian land has given me so much excitement for placemaking. The hours we spend in our homes are valuable, and creating deliberate, considered spaces that reflect the rituals, values and movements of our family has championed how our little place has been designed by @poppybevan .
Activating an otherwise uninteresting space is not a new movement in cities, but in our little part of the world it is much needed.
Not just creating a building, but a home and a beautiful structure to be enjoyed not only by us, the owners, but the people walking past. And not just another new build; a thoughtful built form, activating a space which was otherwise lacklustre and under-utilised. Our block was neglected for over 20 years, overgrown and under loved, and we are already hearing from so many locals who walk past our home everyday sharing our excitement about the transformation and activation of our corner block.
