This is ‘SMOH’, Slight Movement of the Horizon by the Spanish artist @gabrielruiz -larrea was selected in 2016. Together with the students of the Department Electronics-ICT of Group T, Gabriel developed a mirrored structure, which can slightly move. Its interruption of the horizon line confuses our perception of something that is supposed to be unalterable.
Like a large billboard, it reminds us that space and distance determine our spatial experience. While playing with the horizon, the mirrors dislocate their centre of gravity towards an undefined image that needs to be rethought and reconfigured.
Production: Werktank / With the support of the Flemish authorities and KU[N]ST Leuven / 500 Years Utopia / With thanks to Stefan Grossmann-Hense, Group T and the students Gert Geboers, Alberto Martinez Frances, Jef Sabo, Akilu Teferra Ambassa, Bjorn Van Olmen.
