Handloom Saturday Alert*
Ikat is called‘Poetry of the Loom’. And rightly so because it's one of the oldest and most complex forms of textile production in the world!
Ikat is believed to have come to India from Indonesia but then again Indonesia was under the rule of the Cholas. So let me leave the hen and the egg to you!
Ikats were elevated to the status of currency along the Silk Road, offerings to the gods and even made it to
Pharaoh's tombs for the afterlife!
In India, ikat remains a prominent handloom textile art in three major regions – Andhra/Telangana, Gujarat, and Orissa. So imagine my joy when Anmol launched their Sambalpuri ikkat carrier...with hearts! Wheeee!
Did you know that Indira Gandhi was credited with making these ikats popular outside of Orissa back in the 80’s. Who ever thought India would be going through such a major handloom revolution today!
So here we are striking a pose at Hanoi’s 7 km long Mosaic Wall that made it to the Guinness Book of World Records. Clearly the ikats have hijacked this post! 😎 #iwearhandloom #cotton #indian #desiootd #cottoniscool #handloom #indiancraft #indiafashion #streetstyle #igstyle #picoftheday #styleinspiration #indianfashion #madeindia #ilovehandloom #indiantextiles
