Many people enjoy running as their form of cardio. Some even like to take it a bit further and perform high-intensity sprints. These are great forms of cardio that help you increase your energy expenditure. But something to consider is how you program these runs around your lower body training days. - @built_gym_ If you run several times per week next to having strenuous leg day sessions, this can take its toll. Specifically, on the hamstrings [1]. Running is high-impact and has a large eccentric component. Just like a heavy leg day, this puts stress on the hamstrings and they need time to recover [2]. This is why high-level sprinters, for example, don't perform max-intensity sprints every training day. It's just not a good idea from a recovery & fatigue management point of view. - Now, this is not to say that any form of cardio around your leg days is bad. If you opt for a low-impact form of cardio like cycling & rowing, usually your legs don't need much time to recover from this. Especially if you maintain a low-to-moderate intensity while performing cardio. - Lastly, as always, keep in mind that there will be individual differences. If you have been running after your leg days for a while now, you may have accustomed to it and there's no urgent need to change things up. Here’s a positive thought to start your Monday with - the last week hobbling around the place on crutches, two things have become very apparent to me.....(1) Crutches are awkward b*stards ....😂 (2) People, as in the general public, are extremely kind and thoughtful. All the negative reports you see on the news every night, it paints a very distorted picture of how human beings actually treat eachother. Every single car has stopped for me if I’m crossing a road making sure I have extra time (far too much time tbh) to cross safely. I don’t think I’ve opened one door because someone has always jumped up to open it (even though I’m perfectly capable of doing it!). And anytime I’ve sat in a coffee shop a stranger has sparked up a conversation about what happened to my foot 😂 Tbh I don’t like the door opening, conversations etc it makes me feel embarrassed but im very grateful & it’s so nice to see how we actually treat eachother in real life. For the first time in a looooong time, I actually really enjoyed training. I was psyched to be in the gym for myself and to get stuck in. Physically, mentally... everything seemed to click into place today 😊 . The new equipment definitely made me smile. As soon as I saw the bumper plates I couldn't resist, and may have got carried away just slightly with the power cleans; 10x3 instead of 5x3, and with some singles to finish 😅🤷‍♀ . I also reintroduced overhead press back into the programme (yesssss) and finished off with some SL leg press and antirotation work on the cables - making full use of the new kit! 😉😍 . Honestly, cannot say enough how much better I feel after this session. I've been struggling massively for the last 6 months with training, and now it feels as if everything has reset to how it was 8 months ago. . Training is the one thing that I can always push through, no matter what, I will keep going. Push through that sticking point, keep working and don’t give up. So today’s session I was really proud that I could jump back in and despite 6 months off - I could still push through and not buckle 🤙 . So bring on the next few months, the time off has been good but now I'm back! & ready to see just how far I can go over the next 4 months 👊 . . Interested in personal training or online coaching? Ich finde es so wichtig, sich Zeit für sich zu nehmen, um wirklich nur zu entspannen. Das heisst auch einfach mal gar nichts tun. Das ist am Anfang gar nicht so einfach, da unser normaler Alltag dafür sorgt, daß wir immer irgendwas tun. Und wenn es nur das Handy ist, was wir in der Handy haben. Aber nur wenn wir auch mal entspannen, um den inneren Akku aufzuladen, können wir etwas leisten. Und was viel wichtiger ist, gesund und fit sein! Wie entspannt Ihr euch im Alltag? Plant Ihr Entspannungszeiten bewusst mit ein? Ich wünsche euch starken Tag. Why I love leg day so much? Because after my training session I can’t even walk next 2-3 days 😂 _____ Want to set new working weight on squats - 95kg! Today I did 3 sets with this weight!💪🏼😏 _____ Today’s squats: 1. Without weight 10 reps 2. 40 kg x 8 reps 3. 60 kg x 6 reps 4. 80 kg x 6 reps 5. 90 kg x 6 reps 6. 95 kg x 5 reps 7. 95 kg x 4 reps 8. 95 kg x 4 reps 9. 90 kg x 6 reps 10. 90 kg x 6 reps 11. 80 kg x 8 reps And then I did 5 more exercises on legs and glutes!🔥🤘🏼Then shoulders, abs and 20min cardio!🤗
