Washi is a contemporary expression of Japanese design, materiality, and tradition. Applying digital methods of design to traditional techniques and materials, bringing artisanal materials, in this case, washi paper that is hand-made by an artist called Isao Nakamura, from the Tokushima prefecture of Japan, to bring the unique traces of craft into digital design.
Isao Nakamura is the last person to still uphold this traditional craft of making washi paper by hand. It is precisely the “flaws” that make each individual sheet of paper unique that drew us to the paper.
06/22 at 4pm is the first time we are unveiling this to public as part of @ladesignfestival , we hope to see you there.
