When you buy something, you don't pay only with money. You pay with the time you've spent to earn the money. A few hours of your life to buy a new shirt, or weeks or even months for a new cellphone. As the things we think we need in our every day life are growing in numbers, we are bound to waste our lives in the never-ending pursuit of these things.
Instead, I choose to spend my time on myself. Thinking, feeling, learning. This doesn't mean I don't work - I do occasionally - but I trade my time at work for things which I feel actually matter. Without rent to pay, without things to buy, replace or repair, and without expensive habits, I can save money which I later trade back for time again, when I quit the job. Time I can use for traveling both the world and my own inner realms, in a never-ending journey to become a better person.
